ok thanks
but once i have it corect i will be able to get in at this early stage ie 2 months prior to departure

Yes you will be able too, I booked my honeymoon in January and have been able to get access since the day I booked and I was able ot add my FC account detailes to the booking as well.

Make sure the first name and surname matches the same as whoever was the lead person on the booking in Thomas Cook. So if it was your wife's name in Thomas Cook then use her name with the PNR on Virgin's Website.

My PRN takes the following format:
XX9XXX

So it can be any combination of 6 Numbers or letters. Hope you get sorted

Once they've reached the limit of allocatable (is it 60%?) seats the functionality is disabled. Unfortunately it sounds like you may have hit this limit.

But fear not. At least you've got the code, and proved that it is valid. Keep trying, particularly a few hours before OLCI opens (a number of V-Flyers have reported the seat request map becoming available around this time) and then, as others have said, do OLCI. You can download the free VS app to the iPhone and as long as you can get a connection at T-24, Bob's your uncle. I used it last year in the US and it worked a treat.

managed it for V8 return leg of our trip, but disappointed though there was no rows left with a window and 2 seat next to them available, i would say about 85% of the seats were not avilable to select, just call me old fashioned bt we booked these flight lat August just as they came available and would have thought as a family booking seats togetehr would not have been left to chance, there was only about 3 rows where i could pick seats togther at this time 10 weeks before flying!!!!
as for the outward leg the system is not letting request until closer to the time due to the refit programme.

With regard to your VS8 booking it's possible that the 60% of seats available for pre-selecting has been reached. More should open up just before OLCI. Just keep checking

Unfortunately even though you booked your flight last August and didn't request your seats until now, there would be lack of choices. You will have the same remaining seat choices as the person who booked their flight just this weekend.

Many people request their seats as soon as they have booked/ticketed so you have missed out since August.

Never fear, I am one of those people that when flying Y, bravely leaves my seat selection to exactly 4 hours before OLCI and have always managed to nab Row 32 seats in the 346.

i think this is something to tour ops must address in telling customers to look on-line and pick seats. Imagine if my daughter had been 8 not 16 and we turned up at checkin to be told we would all be sitting in different rows. having re-checked the seating plan there were only 2 rows that allowed the 3 of us to sit together and Neither of these include a window seat!

In which case there would have been a bit of shifting around to enable you to sit together.

You can still change your seats at OLCI for the VS8 which is why I suggested that you keep checking. When my family and I were travelling together, because they had made their reservations some time after mine, we changed seats several times to get together including when OLCI opened. Even then my nephew was seated separately from us but another passenger kindly agreed to swap

I booked my tickets direct with the airline,(PE) only to find out after that I could not choose my seats. I phoned the help line only to be told I could only choose my seats 24 hours before departure.
I flew with Virgin last summer and was able to reserve seats right away (out & back). I am not happy about now having to waste time while on holiday trying to reserve my seat for the return home.

Yes children are allowed in the bubble but although the seat map is not available currently because of the refit on the LGW fleet, from Nov 1st it will be unavailable across the fleet because of changes to the IT system. There is no definite date as to when it will be re-introduced. If you look here and scroll down to the tab entitled "Restrictions to seat reservations from 01 November 2012" it will give further details

Why not get the Virgin iPhone app and have the Mrs. or daughter to do OLCI en-route? Or you can do it if your not driving! |:)

Just my 2 cents worth.
Whichever you choose, have a great trip.

Do you need the phone app,I just enter the website address and call it up that way

The app is more targeted in terms of key functionality, screen size etc.

It is horribly frustrating, particularly as it was one of the USPs of the offering. It will, I hope, come back at some point.

That said, it was only ever a request, that could be changed up until the point at which you arrive at the airport. Since OLCI became available I've always used that facility (whether on outbound or inbound ) in order to improve my chances of actually finding myself in the seat I wanted. With a wee bit of scouting out of free / low cost wireless or use of a hotel's business centre it rarely takes more than 15 minutes.

i totally agree with the above quote, it ruins the ethos of a holiday, and really the airline should take more intersted in ensuring families are sat together on both legs of the flights without the customer having to worry about it. In all my years of packege tours in the 70s 80 and 90s it was just something you knew would happen!!!!

I don't really see the jump in logic there. Just because the seat request facility isn't available doesn't mean that VS won't, on the day, do their level best to seat families together.

It is just something the traveller should not have to worry about in my opinion, but due to the advances in techology, it is something the airline should manage rather than empowring individuals and causing confusing on the day. I don t want to be thanking people for moving to allow us to sit together!

Are Virgin not bringing seat booking back once they done there IT upgrading. So should revert to normal soon ??.

I agree with pjh, thats exactly why on the popular family routes at busy times of of the year the seat map does not become available at all to change selection.
With a lot of families travelling, VS staff do their utmost to allocate seating together so the seat map is restricted to allow them to do this.

So are you arguing for the removal of the facility for making seat requests and leaving it entirely to the airline to do what they think is best?
