After our trip a year ago we went back to BA CW. However, BA have cut the MBJ service and KIN doesn't suit us. The alternative to the VS65 is a longer trip via MIA.

So I bit the proverbial and booked UC to MBJ....again.

Please tell me the service on board has improved and the cabin has been refurbed.

Shouldn't you have asked before you booked? ): :)

I think UC is better now since the revamp of the meal service.

Only one plane has been refurbished so far -- and UC on the LGW 747s is not getting a refurbishment in any case, I think...

UC on the LGW aircraft are getting a deep-clean / refurbishment of the cabin (but with the same suites re-fitted, but with slight modifications for the new JAM IFE).

I last flew UC back in Feb when the new meal service was starting to be rolled-out (think it officially launched in March). Even in Feb, the changes were notable and I liked them personally.

Whilst I have not flown BA CW on their leisure routes - if you gave me a choice between the 6 abreast CW cabin on a 777 or the A-zone on a VS 747, I know which I would choose every time. Not BA. (Of course, prices would have to be broadly similar).

Correct - it is getting refresh and deep clean but it the same suites but with the new IFE.

Only one has been done so far and second is having her nip and tuck as we speak in HKG.

The chances of there being a refirbished plane on the OPs route will increase the later in the year they travel

Not that it often ends up making as much difference as one assumes, but if BA had 6 abreast on the 777 it'd be a whole 'nother level of service :D

8, however, does feel tight, even if it's not actually so bad IMO.

When the choices are between a direct flight with VS or routing through MIA or NYC with BA / AA, the direct flight has to be the better option timewise, even though it is more expensive.

Going indirectly removes 14 hrs in resort and on the return doubles the journey time due to a layover in MIA.

KIN isn't an option for stays in Negril / MoBay due to the lengthy transfer.

Only other option is a charter with Thomson and their reliability isn't wonderful.

It's a lot cheaper going direct. I had to decide either beaches Turks and Caicos or Negril. VS UC to Mia cheapest £2300 then factor in AA TO Turks another £400 or VS UC to MBJ which I paid £1490. I booked 8 tickets so the saving to me was nearly 10K. And the nose if the 747 is a wonderful place to be
