any ideas for spending miles?

Hi I am just wondering. I have been saving my miles like crazy and I now have 88k on my account and 50k on my husbands. I would like to fly to orlando next year (in august!!) and I was wondering what I should do.

I think I have a compainion flight on both accounts and a ecom to pe on both. I have a black amex.

I am 2 adults and 2 kids (will be 10 and 7).

how do I get the best out of my miles?
do I wait for a reward sale?
we always fly cheap ecom, and I thought that one day we might manage a pe home!

taking into account that availability might be a bit tight. I would like the last 2 weeks in the school hols, along with everyone else.

I know I am a little early but need to be ready when the flights are released.

The age old question about companion seats... to be honest, you'll need to of booked a fully flex fare to even be able to qualify to use them AND have availability in the general reward bucket (think miles reward availability if checking). Most on here don't think they are worth much and a marketing gimmick, as nearly always cheaper to buy 2 lowest fares (you have to pay for the tax,fuel,whistles/ bells on top of the reward)

MCO in school hols, you'll need to shop around at prices in PE lowest fare, against full fare PE to even start thinking about a companion seat.

Better use would be use miles for a Y seat and upgrade to PE using Y-PE upgrade reward on black card if you've qualified. Do dummy bookings for availability in PE,

Always worth using reward seats for your kids as both below earning capability therefore if you buy a seat you'll get the benefit of the earned miles for actually flying. (very annoying, especially if you take a pet in the hold they actually gain miles and your offspring don't..)

thank you for that. so can I buy a y seat and upgrade it and use a companion seat for the kids, I thought if I book one per account. y to pe and compaion! but then do i have to upgrade in miles for the companion. I don't for one minute suppose you can, but if I don't ask!!
