I'm trying to upgrade a S class (PE) ticket using miles, to G class (UC) on the LHR - SFO route in July outbound and the LAX - LHR route in August inbound. Currently VS don't have any showing as available. Is there somewhere I can get this information without chasing them daily? Or leaving it until the last minute on the day of depature.

No.

You need to keep checking then nab them when you see them.

But you don't have to chase/phone VS though you can check yourself by doing a dummy UC spend miles booking and when/if they do appear that's when you need to phone.

...or if the travel falls within the current sale fare dates, see what the cost of an S - Z fare is instead....?

Return sorted just the outbound to do, preiffer thanks for the idea but I already have my west coast and Hawaii tickets already.

Figured that phills1 - but you can pay to upgrade an S to a Z (IF there is any payment due) even after booking. With the current fares, it may even be cheaper...?!

Isn't it always 799 flat rate from a S to Z UC? Thats what I've paid before although I'm talking back in 2004/5/6

Re-booking your ticket in UC as a Z fare should lead to a charge for the fare difference. Heck, it's only 200+ quid from a K to a Z, so as Paul says you should be able to convert S to Z for pennies.

Still it's only 12500 miles and 60GBP in tax, I guess it will be slightly more for a Z so better to use the miles.

You might want to check the fare rules with Z as they can be very restrictive (such as no date changes) whereas your S is very flexible. If you pay up to Z it will over-right the S fare rules for outbound as well.
