VS017 LHR-EWR 1 JUN 12 (Premium Economy)

It's now a well worn path between LHR and EWR but still, VA some how manage to make each journey a truly unique experience.

Flying PE on one of the newer 340 -600s (I forget the name), I boarded and was greeted by my name... a simple but effective touch.

The sparkling wine flowed and the pre flight tasks were completed as per the norm. We were on stand for longer than I would have liked as I had a fairly tight connection in Newark... but push back + 20min is not the end of the world I guess.

Having now flow on the A380 to SYD with Qantas, where the IFE remains on all the time, I wonder if this is something VA can invest in (does the new RED system do this?)

The flight itself was calm. The food was great (loved the Jubliee touches with the 'high tea' refresh meal just before landing.


Right, off to JFK now for VS4 and I think it's one of the new 3 cabin 330s.

IFE on or off is not something in the control of the airline, it's a CAA restriction. the fact that other airlines allow it is down to their respective country aviation authorities allowing it. I read somewhere recently about how BA wants to trial headphones that will meet CAA restrictions for gate to gate IFE ... not sure what that meant though .

Presumably something about hearing instructions from the cabin crew and, if you have to leap out of your seat, not acting as bungee cord but rather coming away from the connection with no resistance...

That was it - plus the fact that the noise cancelling headphones given out to premium cabins could mean people do not hear the cabin crew when not using the PA system.
