Hi all,

Just a quick question on seating.

Flying on the 22nd June from LGW to LAS in PE. Obviously due to the refits the seat map is unavailable but just wondered if it was worth calling up and requesting 2 seats in the bubble? Not sure we are lucky enough to get the only refitted aircraft!

I have called them a few times over the past few weeks and have has mixed responses from 'We only see what you see' to 'call a week or so before'.

Any advice would be great!

Many thanks

Kevin :D

It really wouldn't make any difference, even the VS staff cannot access the seating plan.

You best bet is to check the manage my booking section 3/4 hours before OLCI opens this should have the seat map up and accessible. You might find the seat map up even earlier than that, but you cannot make/save any changes.

Yes, it does seem that VS are allocating seats for PE pax initially and if the flight is full then there is no option to change at OLCI stage.

If that does happen you can always try at the airport as Row 75 in the bubble is an exit row and isn't allocated until airport check in on the day.

Which, without being beastly, contradicts your post above. Clearly some VS staff can see the seat map!

Okay, so the CS staff can't see nor access the seat map, so whether it is an actual VS person sat looking at and allocating the seats or much more likely the very clever computer system that VS have doing it, the point is still the same, calling the CS number and asking/requesting seats in the bubble is pointless.

my seat map for VS43 23RD July suddenly became live yesterday, but there we no rows in ecomony with 2 seat next to each other available, the best i could get for the 3 of us was 45c, 46c & 46d, on speaking to a Virgin girl on the phone and ignoring her efforts to sell me extra leg room seats, it seams i may get be able better seats when we do twight check in!

It might be worth keeping checking as other pax may change their seats releasing their original ones.

Just to clarify though, the issue for PE pax is still the same, until OLCI (or a few hours before) you won't be able to select seats.

On VS74 MCO-MAN PE today and did OLCI last night at -24hrs and the seats were pre allocated. I tried the seat map to see what would happen and the seat map was unavailable. There seems no doubt that VS are not allowing you to choose your seat in PE despite being told many times by VS that this would be possible at OLCI (Only managed Seq 4)

It actually has more to do with how full the flight is. Yes, VS are allocating seats and if the flight isn't full then the seat map is available for you to change to other seats if you wish.

If the flight is full, then the seat map is locked and you cannot change seats. I guess VS are doing it this way to ensure the maximum number of people/parties are sat together. It would cause a much bigger headache and a larger amount of complaints if people couldn't sit together rather than them just not being able to sit in their preferred seat and I probably agree with the way they are doing it.

As unfortunate as it may be, VS's seat allocation probably also saves a hell of a time at the airport with the check in staff trying to shift everyone around ... still frustrating though and I'd be keen to know when you've flown if the flight was actually full?

From cockerhoops post above, and I am making the assumption they are on the same PNR, then this does not seem to be the case. Perhaps he/she is very unlucky and that was all that was left but it does not seem to have much intelligence attached to the seat allocation.

cockerhoops was talking about economy, which is where there is a difference. Their issue is the fact that the 60% of seats have been taken, some became available but none in the config they wanted. VS aren't controlling that at the moment, they might at OLCI stage, but right now the seat map is/was still in the hands of the pax.

Obviously the PE issue is totally different, with the seat map not being available at all until OLCI stage and then being managed by VS initially.

I thought twilight check in at LGW was fab - no wait at all and got 2 exit seats by the window on the A330 for £50!

I may have read the seat maps wrong but the c and d seats are aisle seats which are pretty popular ! Plus they are prerry much together - at least you are not all spread out over the cabin.

Well, 5.5 hours before OLCI opens, I have managed to request 79 a, c and 78 a, c.

Provided the system honours this request, I am happy!

Oh, and this is on VS043 by the way.

Well done on that! I'll make sure I check OLCI as early as possible next Thursday for VS43.

yes but there was no chance of selecting a row of 3 (window middle and ailse) which would be our preferred option, my family always allow me to have the window seat as they know i love to watch the wing working and trying to spot landmarks enoute (ie 40 mins after take off we should be able to see where we live on the 2 most popular tracks the VS43 takes according to flighttracker 24) :D

Just a quick update.

Logged into Manage my booking this morning and the 'Select your seat' option was available.

I have managed to select 80 H & K. Upstairs at the back, they look good seats. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully they will still be there when check in opens at 11.25am.

Thanks
