Although a few years ago, my best 'bump' was from EWR when our flight was over sold, very few people were volunteering to give up their seat. After a little while the offer went up to 2 free flights to any route on the network....needless to say we jumped at the offer and thn just went back to Philly to my sister-in-law's for 20 hours :D :D

When Aer John won the inaugural Flying Club Swingers Golf competition ours too were a real treat. They were UC tickets and we asked if we could go to Sydney and were much surprised when we were told we could even with a stopover. We (or rather, I) had been prepared to stand the cost of the HKG-SYD leg. They made concessions for us as the deal had been not during school holidays but he was still at school. Fortunately for us Irish school holidays start earlier than the UK ones so we promised to depart before then and we didn't have to pay taxes and charges y)

The "price" we paid for our Reward vouchers was a 2 hour delay and flying in to EWR rather than JFK. Bit of a bargain.

Why seek to add to your disappointment?

There is still no guarentee on getting seats together though !

And that depends on their being seats available for VS to buy from BA too. Just because there are alternative carriers does not mean they have seats.

Fair point...my somewhat flippant response was based on reading your posts as being related to the generic nature of the bumping discussion rather than specific issue the OP faced, which is now history.

Quite, we are getting in to a very hypothetical situation discussion now.

True, but it's a cliffhanger: what happened next?
