Hi
My dad travels quite a bit with Virgin but is not bothred about air miles. He is happy for me to claim them. I know I need to sign my dad up. and then claim his miles and then tranfer them to myself.
Is this correct? and is there a charge for transferring miles?

You need to log into your flying club account to see this, but here is a link to the transfer miles page. Would cost £240 to transfer the maximum 30,000 miles allowed. By comparison, it would cost £465 to buy the same amount of miles for yourself.

Sadly, it's not that cheap to do, and limited to receiving 30,000 miles a year:

there is another way to use your dads miles that won't cost anything in transfer fees etc.

He collects them as normal but he also calls VS to make you an authorised user of his account. You can then use the miles to book flights and rewards etc It might be that he only has say enough for a one way reward but if you have the same you use his miles for the outbound and yours for the inbound etc.

O course, although I'm not sure why you would want pay to transfer your miles to someone you don't like :?

I don't know about anyone else, but transferring miles sounds like a real con! Ok, 20% bonus, but Virgin are simply transferring miles already issued!

I can understand a small admin fee but......

it's the Ruinair model, if you can get away with it / no legal controlling factors and they don't have a choice, charge what you like:
Miles transfers
Surcharges- fuel etc
Credit card booking fees
Etc

It's not just VS
