Help Required.

We are looking at doing a trip next June to Vancouver and then on to Jasper-Banff-Calgary.

Hubby can possibly drive up to 4/5 hours a day.

Has anyone done this trip as we would appreciate any info, time spent in each resort and what to see.We can go for say up to 17 days although are quite flexible on timing as both retired (well not working).but before the Canadian children break up for summer(end of June)

Have looked on trip advisor and several other forums and believe Kamloops is a good stopping overnight place and about 4/5 hours drive from Vancouver.

We have to bear in mind we have to come back from Calgary to Vancouver, as on most forums the people were getting flights from there.Availability is just starting to come through on the flights for june 2013 with G's available. y)

We did this in reverse , flew into Calgary , drove to Banff for 3 night , spent 10 nights in lake Louise ( we w ere getting married there) drove to jasper for 3 nights , then got ' the Canadian ' train to Edmonton 2 nights in Edmonton ( shopping) then flew to Vancouver 4 nights there then home .
It was an amazing trip - and we did it in January so June will be amazing !

Why not by train - surely a most romantic way to travel? though I do admit is restricts your route options somewhat but it is worth consideration.

I did a trans Canada trip by train in 1990 with 2 friends (so not romantic lol). Part most relavant to you is we got to Edmondoton then train to Jasper for a couple of days then train to Vancouver. The schedule means 2/3 days in each place. I think there is a train option from Calgary too but that was not available to use as it is a summmer routing (and may have even been cancelled)

Check the Via Rail website for schedules etc. The train goes on routes that cars can't and I still remember the fabulous views of forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, gorges etc

I would also recommend a visit to Vancouver Island and Victoria. Again the ferry trip is spectacular - I got the ferry from Vancouver to Nanimo and then the (one a day!) train to Victoria and then after a couple of nights in Victoria the ferry back to Vancouver.

My wife and I did this trip a few years ago in an RV and would highly recommend it. We went in July/August, so was in amongst the school holidays and though busy, was a fabulous trip to experience. I will dig our itinerary tomorrow and pm it across to give you an idea of the route/time spent if you want.

Thanks Tonty for the rail suggestion we had looked at this as hubby would love it but the price was pretty steep, have seen amazing photos of the train going round bends on lakes you wouldn't think possible.

Thanks Petmadness, anything would be appreciated, its very kind of you. Linda y)
