On the plus side, I COULD get reward availability for the school hols next year to DXB. But it would still be an effective cost of over 160k miles for the 4 of us for the sake of saving about £1k in total (difference between PE reward taxes versus a cheapish cash sale K fare). Not to mention the lack of miles/TP earning.

So not overwhelmed here. Others may find better deals...

I've managed to bag a couple of Ps for the end of Aug/Early Sept to Vegas which is just what I was after.

Does anyone know if, availability permitting, I can add more miles and upgrade to G? I know if you use the Amex black card PE reward upgrade vouchers you cannot do this, but as this is a 'straight' rewards I should be OK right?

Edit. Fare conditions state:

"Upgrades - may be upgraded to a higher cabin upon payment of the additional miles. Upgrades to premium economy and upperclass are not permitted when foc ticket combined with a published fare."

So that's good news :)

Did a similar sort of calculation for me and the present Mrs Treelo when I got the email from VS earlier today. Got quite excited till I realised I was saving only a very few quid from regular PE fares - and no miles or tier points to boot. Think I'll hang on for a bit and see if a 'normal' sale comes along. :)

I managed to bag flights MAN to MCO in September/October for the two of us in PE for 90kmiles plus £759 taxes etc. I'm not bothered about more miles/tier points as this is probably our last flight plus I've been trying for ages to spend some of our 125k miles. I usually miss the emails :)

Totally agree with you and so very true. My words on this subject are not suitable for writing :(! :(!

But as has been said time and time again, for as long as they get away with why would they change. Also we have to remember the government's ever increasing APD, which was only about £20 when it was introduced!

I found a copy of a flight itinerary from the early 2000's when I got a reward flight paying just £65.40 + miles ii) ii)

Be careful when planning to "upgrade" a PE reward to an Upper reward.
The amount you'll have to pay is not the upgrade amount, or difference between a standard PE to standard Upper.

It will be the difference between however many miles you used, and the FULL Upper class reward cost.

So, If it's discounted from 70,000 to 50,000 miles for a PE seat, you'll have to stump up another 50,000 to get to Upper (the difference to 100k). Not the 30k normal difference or the 25k normal upgrade charge between cabins.
