Arrived at Terminal 3 at 11.00 a.m., after spending the night at the Sofitel Hotel at Terminal 5. Check in was a breeze and through security quicker than a witch could cast a spell to make Federer weak at the knees and let Murray win.

Clubhouse was fine, but being 50 (ish) and with a bad back, some chairs that do not require your arse to sink to three inches from the floor would be appreciated. I did try to clamber up on one of the bar stools but this just induced a severe bout of flatulence and cramp in the right leg!

Flight left dead on 2.00 p.m. and Sir Dickie, the crew of VS45 on 7/8/12 (American date format) did you proud. Friendly, informative, efficient, the whole lot. Had the amuse bouche and spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out what it was, sort of green with a leaf in it... still not quite sure what it was, but I dropped it on my nice crisp white clean shirt, so I can have it analyzed. Smoked Salmon was fine, as was the steak with the crushed new potatoes, although the steak was a tad over cooked. BUT, I managed to drop that on my nice crisp, clean white shirt as well, so I decided to have the desert to see if I could complete the set - and I did! Cheese was wonderful with loads of Shropshire Blue - wonderful cheese. Nice red wine from France, several drops ended up on my nice clean, crisp white shirt by the way...

Had a quick drink at the bar, watched AbFab and some other comedies, (Alan Partridge???? - very funny.) All too soon it was time for scones and sandwiches and if you are wondering where I dropped the clotted cream... it was on my nice crisp, clean white shirt.

Landed early I think, and wonders of wonders, the immigration hall was empty. Luggage came through and I was out of the airport and on my way home 20 minutes after landing.

Great flight, great crew and this report reflects why I am now a confirmed Virgin Flyer - although I shall probably not wear a nice, crisp, clean white shirt in the future.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Possibly the first such mention in a TR :D

Why the questions marks? The man is a Pringle attired god, who many years ago predicted the appearance of many currently popular TV formats (Monkey Tennis!) (Sorry, coulnd't resist...)

For more information see

The Radio 4 "Knowing Me, Knowing You" shows are pure comedic gold.

Thanks for the TR Beagsin, great to hear the flight was smooth and well run.

You can ask for a sleep suit on a day flight. Then - in your case - wear the top as a bib. When you get to New York, simply leave it, with the remains of your meals on your seat. That way your clean crisp white shirt will not resemble a collage of the menu.

That is a great idea Petmadness. I for one would be happy to give ALL my dirty laundry to someone as I board the aircraft and collect it clean and fresh at the gate when I get off. In fact, perhaps Virgin should let people send their dirty laundry to the club house on their return flight a day ahead and collect it freshly laundered. Wonder what other services Virgin could supply!
