Hi -

We are off on holiday this Friday 27th - flying on the VS45 to JFK at 14.00. We are flying in Premium (P) and there are 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 children (3,5,6). We didn't book Upper at the time because it wasn't available on miles, but in the last day the 3 flights after ours are showing availability on miles in the Upper cabin so I wonder if it's a 'quiet' day? With the ages of the children we don't really want to leave LHR any later than 14.00 (it's our first flight as a family as we adopted them 9 months ago so we don't want to test their jet lag ability too much on the first trip!), but are flexible on the NY airport that we fly into.

Could someone have a look at the loads on our flight please and see what they look like, and give me any advice on what I can do to move us up up with miles (and maybe some money, but I think these are upgradeable-with-miles-only tickets). I'm happy to take a chance on the day, but if it looks like there might be a chance, I'd like to secure it if at all possible.

All advice welcome, please! y)

Thanks everyone ;-)

Getting 5 reward seats on a particular flight is not a trivial task. There are currently 3 UC reward seats available on your flight. Can you split your family between cabins? Maybe not! But if you can, don't hang around -- grab the seats before they go. And who knows? Maybe 2 more will appear. Keep checking...

Have a good flight.

None of the load check sites will show you VS G redemption availability, only VS will know and it can change on the day. You're right that loads look light on the later flights on Olympic opening night, and VS will determine how many it will release. Your best bet is to try at the airport ... or ring on Thursday as well.

What fare class are you in PE in? If it's K then you'll likely have a hefty fee for five to a fare from which you can use miles, then it's c. £50 extra tax per person plus the 10,000 miles - is it worth it for three young children (perhaps more for you)?

That's extra fuel surcharge Slinky not tax.

APD is the same level for PE and UC
