Good for you :)

The APD is increased for a PE fare compared to an economy fare.

I guess if you equate £410 for your reward + AmEx voucher fare to ? It will be pretty good value compared to the lowest advertised PE fare. But I'd still be pretty peeved having to fork out that kind of charge for just taxes & surcharges :(!

Woohoo, just managed to get LHR-MIA-LHR PE for Easter for £410 + 22500 miles x 2, not UC but at that price I shouldn't complain.

Earlier today they did not have MIA or MCO availability so I had Washington on hold (then get internal flt to MCO), checked again 30 minutes ago and MIA available!

Will I have to wait until after November to be able to select seat? Got excited and forgot to ask while I was on the phone.

Karen

No problems using Amex voucher to upgrade from Econ to PE.

Example for Orlando:
APD (actual Government TAX) for MCO
Y=£67
PE =£134..
Upper =£134..

Virgin charge (SQ) to fuel the plane & profiteer to MCO
Y =£213..
PE =£233..
Upper =£319.. :0

Hi Everyone

Just to confirm, I have used my two Amex EC to PE reward upgrades for flights (LGW - MCO - LGW) and got two PE seats for 22500 miles and £347 each - Great value for PE although the spending in the Florida Malls on baby clothes might still make it an expensive trip!!!!

£347 compared to £410- how does that work? Why is MIA so much more expensive? :?

Seat reservations are currently suspended for all pax on all flights after the 1st November, so you will only be able to select seats at OLCI stage, unless VS have their new system up and running by then, but nobody has a clue when that is likely to be.

Typical, i have just enough points left after almost emptying the account to book another 2 flights in the reward seat sale, but it finishes on the 15th August and my next 2 PE AMEX vouchers are due on the 17th August. Aaaarrrrggghhh !

Just been on the phone to try book but they said I couldn't use my vouchers. I would have to refund the sale miles and redeem the full number of miles! No fair! :-(

Will try again later with a different representative!

Greg on Facebook has just confirmed you can, so definitely worth a call back.

Never give up but you'll end up paying an excess amount in phone charges :D
However the end result will be worth it y)

We only needed one way flights this time, as we are cruising to the US. Managed to get flights from MCO to MAN for 11,250 miles + £140.80 each. Very happy with that. :)

During my booking procedure and having flights on hold, I spoke to three different agents, all agreed I could and have used the Amex PE upgrades. i) One even called me back to complete the booking so he definitely checked y)

Just booked four tickets to Lax retuning to Lhr from Sfo next March! Def can use AMEX upgrades but my return date is currently greyed out so have to hope more availability released before my two vouchers expire in Sept 12!

Sorry for the amateurish question but do VS ever have PE reward seat sales too?

I want to book two PE (ideally) seats using miles but don't quite have enough for NYC. I could book Y seats now in this sale but if VS are going to have a PE reward seat sale I'd prefer to wait.

Good to hear we can use the PE upgrade vouchers. Next question is if I book Economy rewards now can I then use the vouchers to upgrade in October when they're added to my account subject to availability in PE?

I have just been checking, I have now 150000 points and 2 amex pe upgrades. went on to the va site to see what I could spend them on and I am sooo confused.

how do I check the availability of the reward seat flights? each time I try the total comes up as the full amount. am I doing something wrong? or do I need to check each day at a time?

sorry sound a bit dim ^)

To check reward seats availability you need to use the "Spend Miles" function on the booking page |:)

Sorry, I've just re-read your question. When logged into your FC account go to the Spend Miles on the sidebar and click on the Upgrade/Companion fares tab. You will then be able to click on Economy (flexible). Select from the letter to the right of that box bearing in mind that L is the cheapest flexible fare and Y the most expensive. This should give you the price of your economy fare. You will need to call Virgin Atlantic to use the upgrade vouchers and you need to know that there is availability in PE on the dates you want which is when the bit I gave you above comes into play
