We're flying the above rout 3rd March and returning 17th. The virgin site shows 747 both ways. Will the refits be carried out by then? Also we're flying PE for the first time with our baby who will be 10 months! Any advice on where's best to sit? Thank you.

No advice on seats I can offer, but certainly all the 747's that are being refitted will be completed by then, though it's possible that the 1 747 ( G-VTOP ) that isn't being refitted may still be on the fleet at that time, it's apparently due to leave late 2012/ early 2013.

So you'll either have a 7 in 8 chance or if G-VTOP has left the fleet a 100% guarantee of a refitted ac

Please see this LGW Refit FAQ Post for details on how to find the seat maps for old and new planes.

Goods Luck!

I don't think you can see the seat map via MMB for flights November 2012 on.

I don't have any insights on the refitted layout but in the absence of that, I'd go for for PE seats on the upper deck if there are some.

Upper deck should have less foot traffic and be a little quieter for your baby even with the new E seats at the rear. If the new layout is like the old, there's a baby change facility on the bulkhead at the front right-hand side so book seats 70H and 70K and you'll have that, nobody reclining into the baby on your lap and the floor level storage lockers that are on most 747 upper decks.

I think that's the bassinet position; the changing facilities remain in the lavs.
