Charges for flight changes

Hello!!!!

Im brand new to v flyer forums, so hey

Im due to fly to the U.S. next year, however we would like to stay a bit longer now. From your experience does anyone know what the normal charge is, as we are using miles for some in upper and the others are in economy with miles plus money. We only want to change our return date to the UK.

I hope this makes sense and I hope you can help before I go ahead with the change.

Hi and welcome.

It will all depend on what your fare code is, as that determines the rules regarding charges/changes. It is also worth remembering that on flights that have different fare codes for each leg, the most restrictive fare code applies for the whole journey.

So if you let us know the fare code we should be able to help some more.

Also, as you have used some miles / miles plus money, there will need to be miles seats available on your new required dates for you to be able to change.

If you're using miles in Upper then it is G class and for a £25 fee - assuming there are miles seats for your preferred return date - you should be able to change.

For MPM I am blank.

Miles plus money is K going out for premium and X class for economy returning to the UK.

We only really need to change the return date back though.

...just in case someone takes that out of context - that assumes it's a FULL reward fare, using solely miles. If it's an upgraded L/S/etc, the fee will be different.

Okay, so if your G fare is bought just using miles alone, then as Slinky pointed out it will be £25pp change fee providing there is availability on the new date you require.

As Preiffer has pointed out, if you have bought an economy or PE fare and upgraded to a G, you are bound by those fare rules which are £100pp on both an L fare and S fare. There still needs to be G reward seats available on your new dates.

Regarding the Miles plus money tickets, these are changeable for a fee of £50pp, BUT, there will need to be MPM seats available on the new day, and if the fare for the new date is higher than they have paid they will have to pay the difference in fare (inc taxes, fees, surcharges).

Just to give you an example last week I changed my return date MCO-LGW for my flight in September as more reward flights became available. I originally booked an "L" code which I upgraded using miles to a "G", the admin fee to change the ticket was £90.

Airlines charges are a fact of life at this point and there's little getting around them, except one is really sticking in some people's craw.
