one way upgrades?

hello

booked a flight from JFK to London yesterday and was only offered an upgrade for the entire trip upon purchasing. today my friend booked the same flight (for the same price) and was offered upgrades to PE and UC for either one way or round trip. was wondering if anyone knew why this might have happened?

Difference in original fare booked. Availability altered between yesterday and today. A glitch (there are many) in the VS system. Or they just like him more.


Or a mixture of those....
