Ignoring the photo of the VX Airbus...

January this year? Slow news day indeed. Plus all the usual "well informed comments".

Still, at least there is no mention of any zelebs in the artivle

If I recall the day at work, a lot of aircraft had fuel issues back across the Atlantic due to unusual wind, a lot of them stopped in ireland for a top up then carried on to destination, the virgin planes in question may have been diverted but certainly were not on "maydays" the may have declared a "pan" but that is not entirely unusual! Typical daily mail article very late and poorly informed

ExaroNews, staffed by ex-Daily Heilers ... what a tosh story, mind you, if it really was an Airbus as per the picture they certainly would have been short of fuel. The source story does not even use the word 'mayday' so I suppose that was added for extra journalistic flair by the Heil reporter ...

Why anyone reads this rag is beyond me.

That info was in our local paper at the time.

In fact I was hoping the VS would realise the benefits of landing at Stansted airport and perhaps fly from there a few times a week y) :D y)

I live just 20minutes away so would be so grateful :)

Me too that would be brilliant. I remember that airline that used to go there to LAS we were saving up for that but it went bust.

Yes, we was all booked up for our first trip to LAs Vegas in April 08 on Maxjet, then on Christmas eve 2007 they go bust (got money back though) and then I was booked to fly from Stansted on AmericanAirlines into JFK and they suddenly stopped the route :(!

Shame the 'big boys' don't use the airport coz its got really good travel links and is a really nice airport :)

The report in the Mail is confirmed by Virgin Atlantic. Both VS16 and VS44 declared PANs on 3 January. There were two other low fuel incidents - including a Mayday - on the same day at Stansted.

I've not seen anything confirming a mayday from a virgin aircraft,

"Two of the planes involved were Virgin 747s, which needed priority landing after flying in from America.

However, Virgin Atlantic said that neither of the planes - called Jersey Girl and Hot Lips - issued maydays, but had been diverted from Gatwick due to high winds"
