Arrived at Heathrow DTCI after being chauffeur driven from our Kent home. Smooth ride round the M25 with a minimum amount of traffic and no delays. Boot opened and cases were taken out - did not see them again until baggage claim in Chicago. Ground crew checked paperwork and directed us to security. Mrs J had her customary bag search. Proceeded to UC Lounge. Access was via lift - complete with seat which Mrs J made use of. Greeted by a very enthusiastic hostess, who explained everything and then showed us into the Lounge. Mrs J went to book in for a pedicure, but was disapointed as no booking available. Receptionist did offer to take name in case of a cancellation, but this was not to be. Both had the Clubhouse breakfast, which Mr J washed down with a glass of champagne. Took a quick look at the facilities in the Lounge and noticed 2 hanging chairs. Flight wwas called and we made our way to the departure gate. Arrived to find quite a long queue on the UC/PE side. VA seemed to be selling up-grades, which was later confirmed, with a full UC cabin. Boarding took place and drinks were offered. Both chose orange juice. Flight left 30 mins late, smooth take-off. Appetizers were served and around 1pm lunch was served. Mrs J chose beetroot cured salmon, pickled cucumber, radish and horseradish creme fraiche. Mr J passed on this although the option was Somerset Cider and onion soup with toasted croutons. Main course for Mrs J was slow cooked feather steak with fondant potatoes, carrots, silver skin onions and jus. Mr J reluctantly chose grilled breast of chicken, gnocchi, spinach and truffle cream, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The veggie option was English pea and mint tortelloni with pea shoots and Italian cheese. All choices served with a choice of warm bread rolls. Dessert chosen by both was warm chocolate and salted caramel pudding, the other option being apricot-raspberry almond tart with creme anglaise. Cheeseboard and port were then offered, Mrs J chose Brie with biscuits and grapes and Mr J declined. No tea or coffee was served with lunch, although wine was offered. The graze menu was sausage and mash, coronation chicken salad and veggie sushi selection. High tea was served with a choice of egg mayonnaise, ham/mustard and poached salmon with scone, cream and jam and choice of cakes. Tea and coffee was offered. Later on during the movies to Mr J's delight ice cream was offered. Mrs J took advantage of the exellent IFE and watched three films, whilst Mr J had his nose in his book. We landed early, straight off the plane to immigration. Around 10 minutes to clear immigration, then off to carousel to reclaim baggage. Straight off to pick up hire car. Excellent experience all round.
