Just back from JFK on vs10... Tr will follow BUT for the first time since 2004, I was faced with the outdated and pretty grim all round odyssey system. Before lgw regulars shout me down, I know this is still common place on a lot of flights, it's just so noticeably low tech. I guess if they had to fly an a343 into lhr, the chances of pax sleeping on the VS 10 is far higher!

Anyone know how long this outdated system will remain withvirgin. It really does spoil the brand image somewhat! (everything else on board wax tip top though :) )

is there any truth in the rumour that all passengers will be given I pad or look alike for inflight entertainment until then?

Not heard that one, although BA did this for First customers on older IFE equipped 747s I believe.

VS did it (as an experiment?) on a 330 flight to SFO..

This topic is exactly how I am feeling about my impending 12 hr flight to Cape Town on a A343. I really never expected the route to be served by a 343 but I guess pax numbers are low. Gutted.....

Do VS have a ETA for their first 787? I ask this as I was on the Boeing tour in Seattle 3 weeks ago, and the guide said that the first 787-9 won't have its first flight until May next year.

I think I heard somewhere in the VS Domestic press releases that they wouldn't be getting them until 2015...

But saying that - I have heard that a number of VS flight deck are currently undergoing 777 training so that they can go for the conversion course to 787 when they are ready. Not quite sure if this means an earlier receiving date, or just being proactive(which would sound quite odd for VS! ii) )

Thanks for the heads up! I'm coming back from IAD on the 10th and since booking it had shown a 346 for me (there and back) but just checked after reading your post and found they've both been changed to a 343 at some point this afternoon....

Just changed my seats around ;) I don't tend to watch the IFE - just the sky map, I listen to my ipod, watch the sky map, I'll be kindling too and probably dozing so ... I never have the concentration on a flight to watch anything much or for long....

Is Odyssey really that bad?

There is still a good selection of movies and TV. The games are pretty rubbish, but it is the same selection on V-Port (what happened to the Nintendo games?)

Not being able to pause a movie or start it when you want is a pain, but it is still OK and does the job. Some airlines charging similar prices to VS do not even give you your own personal TV!

If you fly on United from LAX to SYD you could still get overhead monitors and no choice! Odyssey isn't that bad, the monitors and the quality of the picture though can be.
