I travelled on VS3 today, which by sheer chance was G-VGBR's maiden flight. I will post a proper TR in due course when I have a chance.

In the meantime, as a teaser, here is a (poor) snap of the brand new UC amenity kit.
photo.JPG

In it is: toothbrush (new style), toothpaste (as before), earplugs (didn't try but look different), PEN!! (but quite a cheap one, nothing like the old silver one), tissues, eye mask (think as before), socks (new), charity envelope. The whole thing comes in an ipad wallet which has a nice touch inside -- I will upload another photo in my TR.

Not that I can see. It basically fits an iPad very nicely.

I was wrong about the toothpaste. It is very small in comparison with the old one!

I got the new inbound amenity kit on the VS10 on Sunday night. Not impressed. New style toothbrush is flimsy, toothpaste is near non-existant. Pen is rubbish. I could go on...

Sorry Virgin, but if this new kit is the result of extensive research / passenger feedback etc, you have been speaking to the wrong pax / research company.

Don't get me wrong - I don't want an all-singing, all dancing kit. How about a halfway decent pen - not plastic. A toothbrush that feels like it may last longer than 10 secs + the old size of toothpaste so you can brush your teeth more than once. Eyeshade - don't use them personally, but some obviously do. Ear plugs - decent ones that may have an effect. And some mints, or a choice of mints available to pickup at the UC bar?

I am not familiar with the J Class amenity kits that the middle-East airlines use on their ex-LHR routes, but I would bet they are a lot better than the new VS UC amenity kit offering. VS bean-counters please take note.

I was on VS4 on the 3rd Sep in PE.

This seems identical to the new PE kit photos attached)other than the iPad sleeve which may be useful and cheaper toothpaste! Grey felt seems 'in'!

The pen is the same nasty cheap one.

I have to say I found the shoe bags useful and will miss them.

Anyone flown BA recently in CW or WT+ for comparisons?

I dont get the cheap nasty looking pens. I know we have gone on about pens before and Iguess we shouldnt knock VS for putting them back in but please that is not a real pen. I was rather surprised to find out how much pens actually cost in bulk (my work place get there branded pens for 10p a pen) with that figure in mind these new VS pens would be about 1p a pen!

While I would rather like the iPad cover I only have one iPad and after that the cover becomes redundant apart from giving them to friends who have iPads. the shoe bags at least covered my shoe fetish!! :0

Oh, how I mourn the Oswald Boateng offering and the Space NK goodies and not to mention the quality of pens and toothpaste.

This is not looking good - I too would like to know who if anyone outside the Accounts Department they are speaking to before making these decisions? v(

Well, what a load of absolute tat v( . I'm with HL on this one - the Space NK and OB kits at least had some useful bits.
The tablet case looks like something I'd have made on Blue Peter when I was young. Cheap plastic pens ? I never thought I'd say this, but as least the snooze pack shoe bags had some use.
This is a bit of an own goal IMHO n( .

It seems like the BASICS were forgotten. As per my Facebook post, the earplugs can't be removed from their container and the pen gave up after two words. What a joke.

The contents are WORSE than before.
The bag? hmmm... Good job it's recycled, as I have no issue with throwing it away as a result.
Toothbrush snaps, and has enough paste to brush 4 teeth.
Earplugs can't be used (and are crap anyway).
Pen is next to useless.

So, it's not only cheap, it's also completely non-functional AS an "amenity kit". What an utter failure to gauge their target audience. £5,000+ for a ticket, and THIS is delivered to the passenger's seat?

Are VS *really* still that arrogant to think that customers hold them above ANY other airline when it comes to the "little touches"...?

It sounds like I should take one of my old amenity kits with me to Vegas in November.

I think I will be dropping the new ones off at the local charity shop.

I doubt they'd take them.
