Hello,

I am travelling outbound from London on a Boeing 747-400, Heathrow configuration 4 and coming back on a a340-600 i believe.

Could someone if possible please tell me the differences between the two aircraft and as if there is any differences onboard. For example within the upper class and premium economy cabins. Also which plane is newer.

I hope you can help, i just always wanted to know the differences.

Many thanks.

340-600's are newer, but the interiors are all from around the same time, so you won't notice. The airbus is slightly quieter in the cabin.

In upper, the Airbus feels like a massive train carriage, whereas the 744 is a little more broken up (with the option of upstairs). Upstairs on a 744 has the longest suites they offer (2" longer than downstairs/an airbus). The airbus suites are narrower than any of the suites on the 744. Bar is bigger on the 744 too.

The interiors of the Airbuses are much nicer IMO, VS have been able to design more of the side wall and ceiling surfaces for example to give a more consistent feel to the cabin. I very much like the Airbus for its quiet and smooth ride, the 747 feels noisy in comparison. However, a UCS in the nose of a 747 is a great place to be.

PE on the Airbus is also better IMO with its 2-3-2 seating as against the 2-4-2 in the 747, and you get PE loos on the Airbus whereas on the 747 you go back into economy.

However, the worst seats on any VS plane are in PE on the Airbus 346 variants being stuck between the two loos in the centre of the plane.

"Smooth rides" only available on an Airbus? Quiet, I get (and agree with), but "smooth"...?

Unless airbuses fly in a special channel of air, I'm not sure how an Airbus can offer a smoother flight than a Boeing....? ?|

For me, the smaller suite (despite liking "the wall") is a killer for me. Much rather have the increased seating area (width and length-wise) and the overall more spacious feeling cabin than the slightly quieter ride. (Assuming they've loaded earplugs, that is... :w )

Thank you ever so much for all your responses...fingers crossed both aircraft are ok haha...so by the sounds of things on the 747 i should try for upstairs as the bed is longer
