Yes, it is the LGW/MAN 747s that are being refitted. The first message in this thread holds the details about which aircraft are currently complete and back in service, and how to tell if you're going to be flying on a refit or not.

According to the schedules page, GAL isn't due to fly to XMN until the 11th but in her database page it shows the flight as today - strange :?

Flying to mco tomorrow from lgw and it's a refit BUT that means we can't have a sky cot or bulkhead seats as there are less available on the refits! Going to have to sit our 7 month old on our laps for nine hours!

Where did you hear that?!

At the twilight check in at Gatwick, we went early especially so we could try and reserve a bulkhead and we had originally *booked* a sky cot but when we got there we were told that we had to sit at ABC!

Yes with the refits you lose economy rows 21 to 23 and with them the two bassinet positions and bulkhead row 21. So that leaves only 3 bulkhead rows further down the plane

It take it this means there is a in 7 chance that we will get a tatty old aircraft if we decide to use VS in early Feb to go to Jamaica v(

Only a 1 in 8 but once top had gone it will be all 7 refit.

Someone should probably let the contact centre know...

Asked about seating the family of 4 of us together but were only able to do a 2 + 2 with 5 row difference.
Was offered the £20ea Extra Legroom for the OB Leg, so took them as she could do a row of 4.
She said the Seats would be 53 D-G
Now that would tie in with an old config.

Now do they know roughly what a/c is operating 4 weeks in advance, but by then the LGW fleet will be a 50/50 refit split.
Because if the a/c turns out to be refit, the Extra Legroom seats will not be 53 D-G
So was the 53 row a good indication of an old config, or purely speculation and possibly expect a seat change if a refit gets that route that day?

Trying to word that all right, but may have mangled it...lol
Apologies in advance if I'm regurgitating a time old classic FAQ :|

I tried to book extra legroom seats for my flight MAN-MCO and return in November but was told I could not specify particular seats (we also wanted the 2 seats at the back of the plane so we are not sat with anyone else). So if we choose to pay the £20 extra each we would have to take pot luck as to which seats we got allocated at checkin time.

What is other peoples experience, when paying for extra legroom were you either able to choose which extra legroom seats you had or at least been allocated seat numbers there and then?

You can't select which extra legroom seats you get - you are just allocated some when you check in. It is the same with the exit row seats, you can't select specific seats.

Agreed, we booked them for our return flight from BGI this easter - 2 adults and 2 children - you might reasonably have thought we'd get 4 across the middle, but no, we ended up with 2x2 at the back. Not a major problem, and the legroom was good, but it's total pot luck...

I've been following the VS73/74 for the past few weeks as we will travel on the 73 next Wednesday. It's consistently been V-AST - Ladybird which is a refurb so I'm hoping that nothing happens to change it between now and next week. We've decided to still try for seats in the bubble if we can get them but I'll be having a look in the downstairs PE cabin to see what it's like now. Would any photo's be appreciated?

You are correct that ASG has been operating the 747 flights ex MAN (to MCO/BGI/LAS) for 10+ days now, which is unusual in the usual rotation. I imagine that another swap will be due soon, but there are now 4 out of 7 a/c refitted so the %'s are still higher than not.

Think you might be out of luck. AST is currently operating the 16 back to LGW and XLG is on the 74 back to MAN so it looks like they did a swap last night in MCO.

There is still chance for another swap in LAS at the weekend, but the a/c tends to do at least a week in MAN usually.

We fly out on VS73 on next Tuesday 18th and also have been monitoring which A/C is running the routes from MAN, Looks like Ruby Tuesday will do its weekly slot at MAN now.....gutted it looks like we wont be riding on a re-furb, but hey as long as we get there safe and sound & enjoy Orlando who cares !
