And from the VS website

The use of a ‘stop smoking’ aid is not permitted if it could in any way give the impression to other passengers that smoking is allowed on board. This means that you can’t use any device that emits vapour, has a power source, or produces a light.

I did a flight on FR last weekend (Meridiana last seats went in the hour before I knew work would let me go).

It was very interesting to see the timing of the e-cig sales.
1 - Food and Drink
2 - Duty Free
3 - Now you are really bored and fidgety and gasping for some nicotine so please buy one of these!

Didn't see anyone buy one but met someone smoking one that same evening and it looked really freaky.

Ahh yes, freckles TR.. forgotten about that one. It was on a US flight and admitting to a federal crime on a public forum is a bit special.... oh well lesson learned I think. y)

Sorry Louis but no, if you are planning on taking up smoking in the near future that is..... few years to go no? :P

The reason being is to avoid any confusion and concern between pax as to whether or not it is ok to smoke on board and to avoid people getting upset about what could be producing the cloud of fumes that floats around the cabin... just safer for everyone involved. |:)

No. Link

Probably best to avoid using them on the M6 as well, based on what happened there...

I may not be best placed to comment as I've never been a smoker, but what's so bad about using a patch anyway?

Someone in the know told me that they had sourced e-cigs and other simular products to sell in their duty free magazine only to be vetoed later on by the powers that be at the airline. I think they were worried it would confuse crew and upset other passengers.

They sell ordinary tobacco products on-board and always have done which you can't use on board so really can't see any difference TBH?

As a former smoker myself, I understand how difficult it is to go without a smoke for a long flight (impossible to enjoy it), and I do not see the harm in using an electronic cigarette on board. It is not dangerous, nor does it have the horrible effects of passive smoking.

Someone I know who is going to Japan next march with another airline (a heavy smoker who smokes 50 a day) and is planning on using it in the toilet. I do not condone this, rules are rules even if you do not agree and you have to accept them. I have urged him to buy patches or gum (just as effective as getting the nicotine hit), but it is his look out.

Last couple of VS flights, there wasn't a mention of electronic cigarettes being not allowed in the usual smoking annoucements.

Sometimes you can see why people might do it...

On another note, it isn't smoking. There is no smoking involved. No fire. Nothing burned.
