Does Virgin Australia not cover this route? If not, they can't really compete with Air New Zealand in their own back yard.... :?

since virgin have expressed an interest in the domestic route, then they really do need to consider ther london heathrow - jersey route WHY??
jersey has been recognised as the most friendly tax haven in the world, it has complied with international regulations which other islands refuse.
the amount of business people flying into jersey is massive, the 4 times daily flights from gatwick are always full.
we only lost the BMI heathrow plane because our government refused to give BMI reduced landing fees they were demanding,
a massive market is waiting for someone ??

plus seeing a virgin plane coming to jersey would be awesome

I'd love to see European routes.

I guess the no frills airlines have that done to a "t" though ;)

Personally, I'd like to see a LGW-BKK-HKT route developed, maybe twice a week in the winter to begin with.
Leave maybe 10-11am with an arrival early hours arrival into BKK arriving back into the uk about 12:00pm local the next day, in time for a late Caribbean/USA departure to avoid the costly problems BA had with having aircraft lying around Gatwick on the ground contributing to the unprofitability of having mainly westbound routes and one or two east bound routes

Hi, just my thoughts on a good topic, Houston is indeed A* but Houston has 2 airports. Hobby is hub for Southwest with excellent onward connecting flights. Now if US Air goes to AA and becomes part of the dark side then VS will have no partner airlines in the US bar VA. VA are very good but somewhat limited route map. Southwest have applications in at Hobby to fly to South America hence making Hobby an international airport rather than domestic. This in 2015. Southwest are an excellent airline with huge network. My thoughts would be for Virgin to form an alliance with Southwest and add Hobby onto its list of destinations giving coverage to the middle Gulf coast and surrounding states.

Additional vote for Rio here too..in fact with the expanding markets developing in South America I am surprised that has not been jumped on sooner. In time for 2016 please VS :P y) y)

And 2014 - some world footy cup type thingy happening in Brazil

Couple of things:

1. VS had PEK rights before 2008 but didn't start the route (rights where given when BA were given PVG, historically speaking BA got PEK and VS PVG along with CA and CZ) so its not a given.

2. Being a host city/country doesn't automatically guarantee a cash cow for airlines operating to that host. In fact, if anything, its the exact opposite. Overall toursits do not increase as those that are not interested in seeing the said sports tournament are put off for that year and they are compensated by the tourist only going for the sport. With all this in mind VS decided it good open routes other than PEK pre 2008.

So really the hosting of sports events really have little appeal in starting a route.

I would have thought it was more of a touristy place.

MIA does carry a good amount of business traffic, it has excellent links to the countries in Latin America. MIA is also helped by the cruise trade as well especially in the winter months.

A mixture really- China, as well all know, is booming and is the one country that BA, in particular, are keen to exploit further (especially as AF/KL and LH have stollen a march on them). Tourism is popular aslo - I went to Beijing for tourist purposes (Great Wall, Forbidden City etc), in fact look at the glossy section of any Sunday broadsheet and alongside escorted tours of NZ are escorted tours of China.

NZ wont happen. It makes more sense to use the codeshare with NZ/VA that is already in place.

A friend of mine went last year as a tourist - didn't seem at all odd. I note BA send a mid-J 744 there, which I think suggests a leisure route? Presumably cargo is also part of the attraction.

I second the Seattle route, and also I'd like to see San Diego. That would give great West coast coverage. Although it would cut down on my use of Virgin America :)

Apart from the stated wish of Rio, I can see a growth areas being South America. Maybe even places like Buenos Aires, say 3 times a week.

Africa seems to be a bust with the cancelling of Nairobi.

Far east, Bangkok or even the reintroduction of the second Hong Kong flight.

US/Canada, Maybe Denver but is there the traffic for it? Other than Seattle, west coat is well served with 2x LA, SFO and LAS so perhaps the 41/42 going daily?
