Hi all - we're off to Sydney in December, and just received an email this afternoon advising that a selection of seats are now available to pre-select.

Looking at the plan on the website though, and very few seats are available. Just wondering if this is because, as the email suggested, only a selection have been made available, or if all the seats marked unavailable will already have been selected?

Thanks.

40% of seats are held back until OLCI opens (though it is worth looking a couple of hours before as they somtimes appear a tad early) and so will be greyed out - as will any seats already requested by other passengers.

Tip is to select the best seats you can from the current availability and then try and change later.

Thanks - I guess we'd prefer two window seats rather than the centre, but the only ones showing as available are right at the back. So was thinking about waiting until we go. But if selecting a couple now, and then changing them when we go is an option then that makes sense.

Welcome to v-flyer :) . As tonty has suggested select the best you can for the moment. For the HKG-SYD leg I'd suggest going as far forward as possible and being speedy when disembarking /heading towards immigration as SYD in the early morning can be very busy with lengthy queues due to most of the international arrivals arriving within a short time of each other.
Hope you have a great time :) .

were doing the same route in March flying UC, if the seating request is limited to the 90 day rule im a bit confused that there were few seats left,is this because OP was a bit slow of the mark or there will be more seats released for OLCI

40 % of seats are held back until check-in. I'm guessing but might be wrong that the OP responded to the email he was sent as soon as possible but the email may have been sent after the 90 day window opened. I'm watching the countdown for my next flights (to SYD via a stop in HKG) so I can (hopefully) request 3/4K at the 90 day mark :) .

Just to say I looked about 3-4 hours after the email arrived. Not sure how quickly seats tend to get snapped up. And it's only economy (although we had a load of miles that we were able to use to upgrade to PE coming home which will hopefully be great as it'll be the first time we've flown in anything other than economy).

There's only rows 44-46 available in the front section, and only rows 60, 62 and 64 that have two window seats together available.would prefer a bit further forward to soften the bumps!
