Hi all, sorry if this has been posted before but would welcome some guidance.

I have a companion reward from Amex Virgin Card and wondered how I go about redeeming it, and whether it has an expiry date on it. After my recent travels, already looking at where to go next year.

I'd prefer to go Upper, and am wondering at what fare class a companion ticket kicks in and whether its quota'd similar to reward flights?

Many thanks, and apols if similar question has been asked - blame my enthusiasm for wanting to go on hols again! :D

As buns says the only way for UC is the highest fare class - J - it will be cheaper to buy two Z class ( or 'I' if there is not a sale one) :P

In Premium Economy you can grab one with S class fares, much cheaper and whilst you can upgrade yourself, you can't upgrade the companion with miles..

In economy I believe you can use on on an L class fare which, whilst being the cheapest option of the bunch may not be the best... where are you thinking of going?

The quota is taken from the reward seats released so keep an eye out on the spend miles > reward flights section of the website.

Companion has to be redeemed within one year of issue.. however travel can be outside this time frame - basically need to book within a year of it hitting your account.

Personally companion tickets are of little use to me as it usually turns out cheaper to buy two lower fares in the class of travel. However if travelling with a friend and you split the diff in fare and they pay the taxes and surcharges, it could end out cheaper - but not by much I am afraid n(

Thanks both - back to the addage of you don't get nothing for nothing :?

Will keep fingers crossed for a sale or some Z fares or a mix of reward and paying...

If you don't mind my asking how many reward seats go up for grabs in UC - I know when I flew to ORD with the folks we all got the same flight in UC for rewards - any ideas or is it dependent on season and load? ?|

yep its dependent on the route, season and loads - so in the popular school holiday periods to B&S destinations there will be less rewards available but conversly there maybe more on say LHR-NYC during the same periods due to less business flyers.

The black arts of revenue management apply here as well.
