Hi flyers,

We are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary next year and we would like to return to Hawaii where we honeymooned on Oahu, but this time to Maui.
This time we will have our 5 year old son with us so want to stop off in LA for 4 nights on the way and visit Disneys Cars Land :)
We have started looking for flights for next August. We would obviously prefer VS but it seems that VH do not offer us direct flights to Maui from LAX, would have change planes at HNL.
Charter travel have offered us a package with BA flights that do offer a direct connection to OGG xx(

Just wondering if anyone here has travelled to Maui and who you travelled with and which route with pros/cons.
Is it easy to change planes at HNL ?
I don't have a major issue travelling with BA but would benefit from miles and possible miles upgrade to PE, although I now this may be tricky now that we are forced to travel in kids holidays !

Would appreciate your wonderful advice, can't wait to get it booked.
Also looking at booking Hyatt Regency in Maui - anyone stayed there ?

Thanks

Mr DL and I went to Maui ( and Oahu ) last year. We flew to LAX and then flew to OGG via HNL from LAS as HA don't fly direct to OGG from LAS. It's an easy connection and the reports are here

Have you tried pricing things up yourself as your options might be better (we had to book the HA flights through the Orbitz website as this was the only way we could book them directly)?
I can't comment on the Hyatt but we stayed up the road at the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali as we we wanted a condo that would give us some space. The condo was very good and directly above the water which made for spectacular unobstructed sunsets (the beach directly in front has a rocky crop but there is great sand about 50 metres further up).
If you want any more info feel free to dro me a PM.
Mahalo :)

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui, and it's a beautiful hotel and close to some nice little places. They have the best Lual I've ever been to, a lovely big pool with a poolside bar in a cave thing.

If you do stay there, check out the birds in cages in the lobby area - there's one that says "aloha" and never stopped making me smile!!! (There's another that mews at you, and occasionally barks - it's hillarious).

Have you tried investigating changing at SFO? I believe that United/Delta have direct flights to Maui from there...

Like DL, I also flew via LAX and HNL (I also did trip reports, check them out, they are very complementary about HA). The change at HNL is ok, but connection times aren't that good from memory.

If you're determined to go to Disneyland in LA, then maybe fly to SFO and take in a day or two there, and take a direct flight to OGG?

Good luck with your arrangements, Maui is a stunning island.
