Hi there,

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of flying LHR-JFK either on christmas day or boxing day?? Once i'm off the VS I have to make a dash from JFK to LGA, to make a long winded trip to a regional airport in NY state...

Does anyone know the best minimum connection time between these airports? and if it's generally busy when flying on these days with VS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi, looks like you have managed to post your topic twice.... no doubt one of the mods will be along shortly to help out .. :P

I have travelled ex LHR to JFK on christmas eve... that count?

Was damned busy everywhere, car ride into the city hit massive traffic jams trying to get to the midtown tunnel so I suggested going north to either the Queensboro or Triborough Bridge... it was much clearer north of the city so getting to LGA should not be too tricky.

Sorry my experience with transfers is limited to by car or hopper coach.. so all dependant on traffic conditions, which at Xmas time are very busy granted, but I have seen far worse.

What is the kind of time frame you are dealing with between flights?

Oh Gosh... I need to cross over from JFK to LGA, to get another flight LGA-PHL-ELM... I think I have about 4 hours between flights... I'm just a little concerned at how long it'll take me to get through security, get a taxi etc during the holiday period...

If you are on an early flight ie the VS3 (avoid the 45) immigration and the border should be doable in under an hour - perhaps much less. If I were you I would prebook a car to be waiting for you. Nothing worse than having to join a massive taxi queue to have the minutes ticking away.

Sorry I clearly misunderstood before, thought you wanted to go into the city first. Salient point though most of the traffic is heading into manhattan so getting up to laguardia should be fine, straight up the van wyck and then onto the parkway. Assuming all goes to plan you should be able to get from plane to airport in about 2hrs - that allows for a bit of traffic on the freeway and a mid size queue at customs. 8D

I've done JFK - LGA for a connection within two hours from landing before, on a busy week day. Christmas Day will be much quieter but Joey's advise about booking a car is spot on, the taxi queues might otherwise be very slow ...

I travelled to IAD one year on Stephen's Day/Boxing Day and was surprised at just how busy the airport was when we arrived. It's not a public holiday in the US and so it was very much business as usual so don't bank on the roads being quiet on that day

The problem with Christmas day is that the first VS flight to NYC is the VS9 - with that arriving at 2000 you wouldn't make any connection to ELM unless you overnight in NYC.

Boxing day is much better as the VS3 is operating.
