Thanks for all the helpful advice .We are now sitting in MIA. The only cloudburst of the holiday hit us just as we were approaching the part of the drive where we needed to see the exit signs and boy was it suddenly busy... but we spotted the signs for the Car Rental Return and didn't miss the sharp turn into it.
What an odd airport...I won't comment yet on the security but at least I can now relax and wait for VS006 to take us back to much cooler temperatures.
