Andy, could you not drive/train to an airport bit further south and then get home that way ?Philly and washington appear to be working albeit maybe limited or even Charlotte...not ideal but may get you home

Or to BOS, which is fully operational right now. I'm sure it's all crazy busy, going north is a little longer but you'll be less impacted by general mess as most of the hit was on coastal/near coastal areas south of NY.

This won't be fun, best of luck,

There is some video on this site of the flooding at South Ferry Station http://secondavenuesagas.com/

I contacted a friend of mine who lives in New Jersey to see if he was ok.

He sais a tree had totalled his car but he was safe - in Berlin !

I'm pleased to say I'm on yesterday's delayed VS12 (now the VS112), but since the plane was coming from a charter it is a dry flight! Not a drop of booze to be found on the entire aircraft. Needless to say, this has not gone down well with some of the passengers...but it's either that or no flight at all, so beggars can't be choosers!

Seriously people are complaining?

They need to get a grip. It was pure luck that VS had a 'spare' plane at BOS to be able to run the extra flight because of the NFL charter.

Now I like a drink as much ad the next v-flyer but I could last 6 hrs without one if it meant me getting home days earlier than would otherwise be possible.

Well, we're still down here in sunny Florida, but now our flight with AA up to JFK - which was supposed to leave tomorrow morning - has been cancelled. Rather feels like we're running out of options.

Problem is, VS haven't cancelled tomorrow's 010 (yet), and unless they do it looks like we'll essentially 'miss' that flight, as we've no way of getting to JFK. No idea where this leaves us to be honest. Time to start reading the small print on the travel insurance policy, I guess...

I feel for you. Some airlines are now flying into EWR and JFK later on Wednesday and BA for example is not planning on running a full schedule to New York today meaning it has cancelled some flights. Although according to VS currently it is flying a normal schedule today (which I'll believe when I see it).

Who were you booked on to get to New York with? It's possible it might be delayed rather than cancelled ... is there anything we can do in numbers to check options for you?

Just thinking the same, you have access to the worlds biggest search engine here, and I for one see an epic TR in the making,

Oh dear...Mr S on this mornings flight from EWR, which is cancelled...his cell very low and experiencing problems getting a signal, says iPad same for achieving a signal. The main thing is he's safe...no damage to apartment or offices. Does anyone know whether I would be able to liaise with VS on his behalf to reschedule his flight?
I emailed him this morning ( just hope he is able to pick it up), that Williamsburg has power...and that JFK and EWR are to open this morning....hope all goes well...and for vipond and his family ...

Hi Summer, you'll only be able to act for Mr S if he explicitly tells VS that you are authorised to. That means a call by him to VS unfortunately ...

VS also just tweeted that there's an additional flight to JFK today leaving at 13.50 so some of those stuck in New York will be able to return today.

EWR is now open.
JFK too.
LGA not.

BA has cancelled the vast majority of its flights today but VS is planning to run everything + a recovery flight.

Still no subway and no schedule yet for its restoration.
Trains aren't yet running to Penn (no amtrak).
PATH not running.
Buses are now running -- for free!
Taxis are allowed to pick up extra passengers en route.

Power is out beneath around 39th st on the eastern side of the island. On the west side it is more like 25th st and below.

I am flying back on Friday -- I hope.

Good news...Mr S is on the VS46 leaving on Sunday! Said he was not offered any flights out of EWR...and got the impression from Virgin's US disruption line that airport still not fully operational.

Subway starting to operate - north of 34th/42nd St (depending on line) and in parts of Brooklyn.

Main reason for lack of service south is due to power supply problems that are almost non existent south of mid-town.

Inspection of the 3 (out of 7) tunnels that have been drained is happening as well as repairs etc.

But this site has more detailed info on the lines operating

:D In the same way that the Channel Tunnel is an underpass!

Lower Manhattan is a bit of a mess. The area without power is considerable. It is quite cold here too, now.

Ha, an underpass indeed..

Re the cold, one of my contacts in NYC has told me that Con Ed have had to shut off hot water and heat tonight in order to make repairs to the system to get it working throughout the city. Lets hope it is done quickly ii)

Are they not serving green tea?? :P Which hotel you slumming it in?
