Hi all,just done our esta's on line for our trip to new York.
On the confirmation it says there is no need to take any paperwork but I'm thinking maybe it's a good idea.
Has anyone had any probs when entering the US relating to esta and wished they had taken a copy of the approval with them?

No you don't need to, I've never had a problem, although some people seem to like the comfort of another piece of paper. Enjoy your trip.

They have never asked me for any of the paperwork to be printed, just a quick scan of the old passport, quick couple of questions, sometimes all fingerprints, sometimes none (will be all for an infrequent flyer) They always take a photo though, so make sure you don't have any food in you teeth

Without an ESTA you won't be allowed on the plane let alone reach the USA. If anyone us going to ask its going to be at check-in in the UK but I've always had the "and I can see you've done your ESTA" and some airlines print it on the boarding pass.

Did read that the charters were asking to look at the ESTA's at the beginning not sure if they still do

slinky, all your travel to the US , dont you have a visa ?

I always take a copy of literally everything with me just in case - its like having insurance, if you've got it you will probably never need it but on the other hand ........

I have never shown my ESTA until my last trip to MIA in April. For some never to be explained reason the Immigration Officer demanded to see my paper copy (but not my husbands) and luckily I had it on me. So, I would definitely take a copy with you just in case.

Have never been asked to,show,the paper,copy, and in fact their web site says you don't need to print it, so the CBP shouldn't ask to see it.

However I have a sticky label back page of my passport with emergency contacts on and the ESTA number just in case.

I flew to the US on an ESTA a week after it had been introduced. As part of that trip I did a road trip from Seattle to Vancouver return. On the return at the Peace Arch (the border control on that route) the Immigration guy looked for my I-94 slip but once I said I had come in to the US on an ESTA, a couple of key strokes showed it up and I was free to go. So easy-peasy!

I fly to LA tomorrow. and I just have a screen shot saved on my iPhone just incase I need the number.

Is it really such an issue to print out one sheet of a4 paper and tuck it away somewhere in your carry on?

Remember the immigration officer at your arrival airport has the final say on whether you get into the USA or not... is it worth the risk?

I now have printed copy of ESTA....as always had to produce at St Maarten airport for proof of entry back to US.

Used ESTAs since they were introduced and I always take a printed copy of the confirmation. Never been asked to produce it but you never know... As has been said already its a single sheet of a4 tucked away with the rest of the paperwork so being a bit (a lot) OCD I must have copies of everything to hand 8D

I've been asked for the paperwork once. Was surprised - but I always carry it in a folder with a copy of my eticket (which is occasionally requested at US immigration), hotel reservations, and travel insurance etc.

I fly there lots, never been asked for the ESTA but when I do "renew" it then the first time I travel to the US after its "renewal" I take it, and once I have got that first trip out the way I do not bother taking it in any form.
