Hi All,

Long time reader, first time poster!

I have around 50,000 miles and want to book the MAN to MCO flight next May.
Miles plus money is coming in at £958 per adult in PE
Standard cost, as of today, £1099 per adult in PE

However, the booking is for a family of 4 plus an infant so the total saving using miles plus money is circa £600 plus burning 30k+ miles.

I have enough, in the reward seat sale, to fly PE for £372 in taxes etc. So, assuming I can link the bookings, getting the rest of the family booked up now on a 'standard' booking will save me around £650, but burn nearly all my miles.

The miles plus money option seems to be pretty favourable, but I would like advice on whether this is the smart way to go. Or should I hang on and see if any sales are on the horizon and keep earning my miles?

Sometimes I think you need to be a member of MENSA to understand the best use of your hard earned FC miles. ;)

You don't sound to be saving much on the mpm seats, given the miles needed & the fact you'll not earn any for flying...
In any event, if you're looking at continuing with VS miles collection after this, worth considering the longer play, I.e earn miles on your seat & account and put family etc on reward seats. Especially kids if under 12.
You'll likely struggle to link bookings online so suggest do via phone once you decide to ensure all sorted together.

Welcome.

To me, it sounds like you are using your miles pretty effectively. It does ultimately come down to what suits you best, but it will take a fair while to earn enough miles for you all to be able to fly on reward seats. The MPM saving is fairly decent, although a sale PE could be slightly cheaper, but waiting for one runs the risk or a)there not being, b) it not being cheaper and then the MPM seats have all gone in the mean time.
