Ok apologies for the delay in these reports on flights to/from Cancun.

After three nights in the Mayan peninsula we then spent one night in Cancun – supposedly a hotel with a “business package”. I have commented on this elsewhere, but my advice would be to avoid Cancun if you possibly can!!

Airport
We dropped off the hire car (having paid our parking ticket where they confiscate your rear number plate until it is paid), we wander over to the terminal. BA operate from Terminal 2 which is a different one from VS. There was a slight wait at check-in, where bags were tagged, boarding passes stamped with “priority security” and a food voucher given out. BA do not have a lounge in Cancun and don’t use any of the options available. The voucher was for $25, which later transpired could only be spent on food and soft drinks – alcoholic drinks were not included. Security was busy and there is no such thing as “priority security” in Cancun ;) A little bit of last minute shopping and then off towards the gate to spend out $50 – there are a number of US chain restaurants and we ended up in Bubba Gump….fine but definitely not a lounge and we ended up paying for our alcoholic drink – definitely a thumbs down BA as this is a poor substitute for a lounge!! Boarding was late as the crew arrived late – there was an accident which blocked some of the roads near the airport. All passengers have to pass drugs dogs on the way out of Cancun, and they actually individually checked the cabin crew and all of their bags, much more than the passengers, so from past experience there must have been problems with CC.

Flight
We left about 35 minutes late in the end due to the late arrival of the crew. Again more like a package flight than usual! After take-off drinks were offered and a Kir Royale accepted. Menu tonight was

Starters
- Proscuitto with melon
- Goat’s cheese with asparagus

Main
- Grilled fillet steak with mashed potato and green beans
- Salmon in dill sauce with spinach and baked potato slices
- Ricotta ravioli in tomato basil sauce with Parmesan
- Chicken anchioves and parmesan salad

Desert
- Mango mousse
- Camembert and blue cheese

I had the goat’s cheese and asparagus (one piece of cheese and three limp asparagus spears) and the ravioli (which I think actually was mushroom ravioli). Overall the food was very “school dinners” and not very “business class”. After dinner, I settled back into bed mode and slept for the remainder of the flight.

Arrival
In addition to departing late, we then had to circle over Southern England, so arrived even later! Immigration was busy and bags took a while to come off. No arrivals lounge at LGW, so it was off home for a shower.

Overall impression
Very basic “club world” flight – I think this reflects that the flight originates from Cancun, but I think my final comment is “BA, could try just a little bit harder!”

Nice TR - thanks

I think the arrivals lounge for BA at Gatwick is in the Sofitel. It's the same one that PP use and very welcome after a long flight.

Tanks for the brace of TRs y) y) y)

I keep on getting nudges from former VS flyers to come over to the "dark side" - but based on what you say, it is six of one and half a dozen of the other

Like most, price I think will be the ultimate decider will be price

Thanks once again

All very interesting. Thanks for posting. I'm new to the forum; is everyone welcome to write a travel report as I am travelling VS Upper LGW to CUN on the 2nd March and would be happy to write a TR.
