My wife and I are flying to Boston in May for the first time in upper class. I would be grateful for your advice as to which seats are the best for a couple in upper class on the A330 ?
Avoid 9A and 9K - terrible seats with no windows and lots of noise. Also avoid any in the middle, I'd suggest 4/5 or 6/7 or similar on the A side or K side.
There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles

Well many on here would say there aren't any!!!
But unless you want your companion closeby avoid the centre seats.
If you want a window to look out of avoid row 9.
I like 1A/K as there is only one tacky screen between you and your neighbour but be friendly as you walk though the working CC on the way to the loo.
Don't expect to get anything at all wide into the storage pocket.

3/4 A/K for me.........

Just used 4&5A to get to JFK. They were fine as it goes but UC and couple don't really go together. We were thinking that opposite might be better rather than adjacent but its as long as its broad. Honestly; the best seats for a couple are In PE. Plenty of hand holding and head on shoulder contact. UC is designed as a singletons ideal.
The A340 is much better with the usable ottoman seat and the 1-1-1 layout, particularly around 2-6 K, with the useful wall.
The 330, and its see through wall, doesn't help on the privacy front.
Sorry, rant over. A little worse for wear in Boston on NYE! Forgive me.

Thank you for all your replies - they are really helpful. Hope you all had a good new years eve and all the best for 2013

Ha, made me chuckle... I know what you mean ii)
Sorry American Owl, not much to add to what has already been said, avoid 9K like you would a leper.. 9a is ok as a day seat if you just want to enjoy the service offering and be open to distractions. If I were you I would rule out rows 1 and 2.. they get a lot of noise from the front galley and that area also doubles as the crew rest area so a lot of knocking into the CC if you need the front WCs.
I would recommend rows 3 thru 7.. A/K seats only. There is more space on the sides thanks to the curvature of the fuselage which if you are looking for some shut eye is well needed. The centre seats in the herringbone are sloped at an angle that may cause you to keep rolling into the centre divide in your sleep, unless of course you have a conical head in that case you will fit right in.

Hope you have a good flight 8D
