Stretched Boeing 737

I read today that Boeing is releasing another stetched 737.
Since the 737 started off as a 707 fuselage shortened and two engines removed, I wonder how close it is to getting back to an original 1960s-1970s 707? It would be ironic if Boeing were just dusting off the old drawings and sticking modern kit on it.

Not sure this should be in the VS thread maybe in the airlines thread- but i will leave that to the mods.

Isnt the stretched 737 already around- the 737-900 operated by the likes of KLM and Korean I believe.

I think so,

the 737 is available in the "shrink" 600, the standard 700, stretched 800, and super-stretched 900 series.

I doubt there is any room to expand above the 900, and in any case this would then start to dupliate what the short range version of the new 787 is set to achieve.

You're probably talking about the recently launched 737-900ER, which, is actually the same size as the -900 but has an added door after the wing which somehow allows for more seats. It was also known as the 737-900X before it was officially launched.

For safety reasons, you have be able to evacuate a plane within a certain time limit. The couple of extra doors (an extra one on each side) would mean that you could get more people in a plane.

That why the A380 is a double decker - with exra doors on the upper deck. The orginal design to have an extra wide body got rejected for this reason

900x i dont think has be announced yet- rather like it took aribus ages to announce the 350.

Yes i believe you have to be able to evacuate an aircraft fully in 2minutes. I saw it on a documentry on the 380

It used to be called the -900X, just like the 787 used to be called the 7e7 before it was launched.
