Hello everyone,

I hope that someone can help me, I have looked through the information available on V flyer and can't see the answer so am here for opinions,

I am in the process of booking flights to Orlando and have a choice of VS15 or VS27. As far as I can see, VS15 are the newly refurbed 747s and VS27 are the Airbus A330's.

The timings and pricings are so similar that it really comes down to airplane choice,

I have flown on the refurbed 747 (hot lips) a couple of months ago and loved the entertainment system.

If you had the choice, which plane would you choose for this trip (in economy)
How do the A330's compare in comform, seat pitch, entertainment. Are they old or have they been recently refurbished too?

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to V Flyer

I think one of the major factors you need to consider is the Immigration Queues at Orlando as the 15 gets in later, you may find you are in the Immigration Hall for a long time n(

Hi

The 330's flying this route are very new, having only been acquired new about a year ago...The 744's have all been refurbished (apart from VTOP which should have left the fleet by then) so you should get a new upgraded cabin on all the aircraft..

Both aircraft have the same entertainment system (Vera Touch) so there's no choice there. The service is the same also. Some VS15 will be operated on the 330s this year.

Virgin have been know to change aircraft on routes. And to be honest they have no need to inform you if that change if the time and day does not change of the flight.

It is literally about the time. Either depart from LGW at 11 ish or 1 in the afternoon. The immigration hall in the afternoon is busier than the early Orlando flight.

What date are you going?

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies, they are very helpful.
The flight will be on the 18th April...I think I will go for the earlier flight because of the immigration issues.
Thanks

If you care about seat layouts and you're in a group of 3 go for the 747 or if 2 go for the A330

I've flown vs027 twice before which was good but it wouldn't matter as when I flew the 2nd time a flight from Manchester landed just behind us! It's a mad rush to quickly get off!

I'm going back in September flying on the vs15 and I booked UC so I assume this will be a 747 not the 330?

The vs15 lands at 4 Orlando time so to me that's not too be either.

I flew in economy on the A330 last year, seats are typical economy seats. We chose extra legroom and they were fine if a little hard. My only complaint about them is that on the A330 the aisles aren't too wide and in the extra legroom seats your TV is in the arm and we found that EVERY time anyone walked past, they knocked into it.

i would fly the VS27 out and the VS16 back so as to avoid the long lines at immigration and to give the extra hour or two in Orlando on your last day before flying back.

I looked at all times and I have booked VS27 out for the early arrival and VS16 back to get a few extra hours of Florida sunshine. Flying out in May

We have always gone on the VS27 out and VS28 back but we have had an amended invoice for October and we are coming back on the VS16 which I am quite pleased about as we get longer there and also better for trying to get DS to sleep on the way home :)

Well i've taken advice and opted for the later flight coming back. Have also ignored all advice and taken the later flight on the way out too. Its a bit better timing as will.avoid.rush hour on the M25 but will have to deal with the long immigration queues I know. Saying that it cannot be as bad as over 2 hours at LAS in November right? Although I'm not sure we would have the novilty of standing next to Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May this time!
