I usually book a car with Alamo through Virgin . My next trip ,however , I am not flying with VA. :0 . Does anyone know if I can still book a car through the VS site or must I book direct with Alamo ? !
Thank You

Great. Thank You. I didn't want to get all the way through the booking process only to find I couldn't do it ! :)

Yes as DL says you can. The VS website links you directly to Virgin Holidays booking engine.

Technically it's booked with VH as any queries go via them.

Good thing is that you can still benefit from OLCI with Alamo, saving time at the airport :)

Hi hiljil. You don't say where you're flying to, when and what 'other' airline :)

If its not too late, check out both Hertz and Avis (the latter via BA site and again you don't have to be travelling with them).
Both companies are offering nearly 20%. On just a weeks car rental thats a big saving, even though you're not getting those few VS airmiles it may worth getting an online quote.
Alamo couldn't get anywhere near the deal I got with Hertz from LAX for March.

Thanks Hev60 . I am flying into Tampa so I will check out Avis with BA. Sounds a very good deal.

What a brilliant tip!

I was looking at £475 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee direct with Alamo, only to be quoted £356 via Virgin Holidays. Thank you very much!!! I shall use some of the money saved to buy myself some V-Flyer luggage tags!

Interestingly I had to book my flights direct with Virgin Atlantic because when I went the fly-drive option with Virgin Holidays the car hire segment was coming out at over £600 (I ensured it was fully inclusive insurance and not just their "basic").

Just a reminder that if you do hire a car with Alamo, show your Virgin Flying Club card at the desk and you get 1,000 extra points. I was recently in NY and had to do an unexpected trip to Tampa (down Tuesday morning & back Wednesday). That short trip earned me almost 1,200 miles. y)

Hi
Does the 1,000 extra points work if you booked car hire through Holiday Autos? I've booked through them with Alamo (cheaper than Virgin with NHS Discount!)

Not 100% sure, but worth just asking them to enter the card details at the counter. I didn't have any paperwork with me, and when I handed my card to the agent, he looked a bit confused, but entered the number anyway and the points showed up a week or so later.

Hi,
Any idea if/how this would work if I used the online check-in for Alamo? (http://www.alamo.com/offer/virgin) I was intending to do it before I left and then walk straight to the car park at MCO.

I have my car through Virgin Holidays at MCO and will be getting miles for the whole holiday. Is it still worth showing the card at the desk?

I did the online check in last year and just made sure my FC number was on the booking - got the bonus miles with no problems :D

Yes you definitely can check-in online prior to travel and it makes the process so much easier after a long flight ^) I'm sure there must be a link somewhere on the Alamo website but I just searched through google and it came up y)

Yes, it does. OLCI allows you to go straight to the carpark and select a car, but you still need to show your DL as you drive out. At that point you can also show your FCC and ask them to enter it so the miles are added.

I have a question on car rental.
I booked Alamo on Virgin Atlantic site which uses the VH booking engine, prepaid.
I received a quick confirmation, and an e.mailed invoice with zero balance, they say e.voucher will be sent after payment.
I have not got this yet, they say it is in a queue, so far 3 days, does it normally take so long?? I am not traveling until later in the year, but it seems slow, anybody any experience.

Thanks.
