Booking a VS CDC for collection from LAX

Does anyone know if you can pay extra for a CDC (booked with 17.5k miles) to take you further than 75 miles? Just looking at options for getting from LAX to Palm Springs when we arrive on the 7 next year.

Yes you can, just did this (sitting pool side at the Desert Eclipse right now). I was quoted $190 when I made the booking, the driver then asked for $125 which he happily received plus a tip. I find the company that VS currently uses (Avalon I think) to be very efficient, the cars and drivers good - have done this a few times.

Normal rates between LAX and Palm Springs are in the range of $450-550 so I think this is a relatively good use of miles. And after the long flight we much prefer to do this and pick up a hire car in Palm Springs than driver down from LA in the traffic!

That's incredibly useful info Slinky - thanks so much. Also going to look at Desert Eclipse...we usually stay at the small (yet extremely fabulous!) Desert Riviera on E Palm Canyon but perhaps fancy a change next year!

I've done it before by offering VS to charge more miles also. They did at the time - so I dare say they can do it again...

Just an update on this, spoke to VS yesterday and they said I could pay cash to cover the mileage over & above the 75 included miles for 17.5k miles. Adding miles wasn't an option unfortunately. Was quoted $162 which feel is good value (there are two of us) so booked there & then No cash outlay now, just pay driver.

V.useful to know y) y) We are seriously considering a W.Coast jaunt that will encompass Palm Springs (and that would include the Hotel in Palm Springs you have used in the past) in early summer
