Being sold to the owner of Manchester Airport - Manchester airport group - which is owned by 10 Local Councils in greater Manchester.

So almost a nationalisation !

Personally I hope that now the scheduled airlines will start to use this brilliant (currently unused) airport y)

I would have to agree, especially as I'm only 30minutes down the road.

How the participating membership of V-F has changed. A few years ago there would have been many, many posts stating that this was £1.49999bn too much. :D

Agree - we're about the same distance from Stansted. I so wish there were scheduled flights from there too...

Same here, I'm maybe a shade further out, but an easier/nicer drive for me than LHR. I remember the good old days of being able to get to JFK from there. Then it became the odd 8 quid Ryanair flight to belfast, and now nothing. I find there's something nice about being able to park 'out front' and would welcome the chance to use it again on a regular basis rather than just for the odd holiday here and there...

I don't wish to be picky (now you sense a 'but' coming... :) ) but I'd think most of the traffic out of STN is scheduled. EasyJet, Ryanair, Air Berlin, Germanwings, Pegagus et al may be LCC but they aren't charter airlines.

I think most people who have viewed and have replied to my comment, are aware of the point I was making |:) "But" if you wish to be picky, then I will elaborate further by saying, simply that .. .. I would hope some of the major scheduled airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways etc etc might decide in the future to operate some long haul flights out of Stansted Airport. So sorry for not being precise with my original point ii) ii)

American Airlines did use STN a while back, shame they decided not to continue those schedules.

I too would love STN to be a VS hub, although I don't hold much hope of it happening anytime soon. I'm another who lives just 30 mins easy drive away.

I fondly recall the MaxJet days - all Business Class flights to JFK and IAD. I used to leave home at 8am and be comfortably on the 10am flight. That included parking my car in the long term car park and having a coffee in their lounge!
