Another thing (will this woman never shut up?!) The 2 flights I've just booked - the miles I redeemed were taken (for both flights) from my account. While this isn't a problem, I thought that miles had to be redeemed from each account ie that you couldn't nominate to pay your miles towards the flight of someone else? This being the case, I'm now wondering if there's any real benefit to my husband and I having individual Virgin credit cards - we might as well have one with two cards and accumulate points that way. Certainly would be easier to amass the 15,000 points a year for a companion flight. Anyone got any guidance on this? And many thanks in davance, you're all so helpful adn I wish I'd stumbled across this site long ago....[:X]

Didn't realise you were a woman, so I really wouldn't worry about shutting up - keep on asking them.:D

The miles normally come from the person making the booking. This is a security thing really - I cannot spend miles from your account for example (which you are proably quite pleased about!

To an extent, that is a financial security question - how much do you trust your husband, and visa versa[}:)] However I can see the admin benefits of having a joint account and it would appear easier to get to the £15,000 - but I am not familiar with the rules on joint cards and companion tickets. Someone else here maybe able to clarify on that point.

One word of caution. The companion tickets are not as valuable as they at first appear. The booking classes that the full fare are quite restrictive, and as such (particularly at the back of the plane) 2 discounted tickets can be not much more expensive, or even less money, than 1 x full fare + companion. If you do a search on "comapanion", there are a number of threads discussing this subject.

Pleased to hear it. If you like it here maybe this link would be of interest;);)Membership kits!

That's just what happened, they all came off my account! Lucky that I trust my husband then! The thing about companion flights was just something I threw in - I haven't done any of those - but it's nonetheless going to be far quicker to get anough airmiles to upgrade by shoving them all one one account. At the moment, we play cat and mouse with miles (but you don't need to know about that!), tying to keep our accounts fairly even. But no real point!

So - thanks sailor. And yes, have seen the link to the membership kit - but actually, I rather want to wait until I've made 100 posts and then get a silver kit! Especially as I've just been downgraded to red flying club status - a real annoyance, since the reason that's happened is that I had to take flights with other airlines as Virgin didn't fly where I was going and neither did their partners. Sigh.....

Fair enough. Can't blaim me for trying to drum up a little money to keep the site going though:D

mrs and I both have FC accounts and had 2 separate VSCC accounts but we both held supplementary cards to each others accounts.
The main reason for us doing it this way was to enable us to put all our spend onto the FC account that needed topping up.
When redeeming miles, FC will take the miles from where you tell them i.e. 100% from one account 50/50 from each or a 75/25 spilt. The rule is that each separate leg has to be paid in full from 1 account.ie for 2 returns, 3 legs paid from 1 account and 1 leg from the other. To be able to redeem from each others FC account we both had to give written authorization.

You can say that again!

Ahem! [:?] I stand to be corrected but I thought to get a silver membership kit you already had to be a red member and you moved up the ranks thus through each layer of membership [:?]

I also believe that is how it works....it does say sthg like
100 posts and be the holder of a red membership card and I assume this means that you have to buy a red and then silver.

Yup, as Honeylamb says, Silver kits can only be purchased by existing members (ie: those with a red kit)

Might be worth considering "buying in" now, to make use of all the member features, rather than waiting for 100 posts only to buy both at that point anyway....

Ah..... the catch... and does that also mean I have to make 100 posts AFTER getting a red kit???? WHat are the extra membership features? The thing here for me is that I don't like the colour red - bit of a bummer really!

Not really. You could make 99 posts then buy a red kit, make one more post then buy a silver kit. Or make 1000 posts, but you'd still have to initially buy a red kit before you could buy something higher up. Remember, anything you buy helps these forums, and they help you in return ;)

You get access to the members only forum and access to a few useful flyer tools. You get the luggage tags (which get noticed quite a lot these days at the airport), a dinky little badge, and some callers cards. However, the real purpose is to support this site. It is largely provided free, and there currently is no obligation for anyone to buy membership. However it still takes money to run....

I know what you mean about the red. Think of the tags as burgandy!

Will have to bite the bullet and go for red then..... I assume that, once I hit 100, it flags up that I can go silver?????

Reminds me - I wanted to have a black credit card, but flying club card holders can't..... hey Richard, you need to change this!

The suggestion, when buying a kit, is to maybe have your email address. Good thought - but there appears not to be enough spaces to do this. I get so far and then the letters don't take. Anyone else had this problem? I don't have an especially long address!

Firstly, [^]

Will it flag up when you reach silver? Probably - you don't think v-flyer would miss an opportunity like that. ISTR that when I reached silver something like "sailor has posted 100 pieces of utter drivel and is entitled to silver membership". Either way, keep an eye on your score to be on the safe side.

As to the email address, yes, I think I had the same problem. I simply used the fields to put in my home and mobile numbers. That way if the bag goes AWOL, the finder hopefully can always get hold of someone. DonÕt use a home address Ð I probably wonÕt fit, and burglars spend time at airports looking at luggage tags to see who will not be in their house for the next few days.

I've got over 100 posts and it doesn't mention anything about me being able to go to silver......perhaps it's because I'm already got a red membership or just a bug?

Oooh no, wasn't going to put my address on the tag! I'd have preferred to have had my email on it though, as it's somehow less personal than a phone number. But - guess that's what it'll have to be - a mobile.

No, you have to track it yourself. It was only when someone mentioned having enough posts for silver that I realised that I too had reached that princely number. Currently I'm watching my count as I am nearing black [y]

Just a reminder to anyone thinking of buying a membership kit, pixuk is currently partying with the others in Las Vegas and so kits, numbers, the nice member banners under your name won't be available until next week. In normal circumstances the banner is up in the twinkling of an eye and the kit with you in a matter of days.
