After a two night stay in Amsterdam it was time to head home. The first night we stayed in the Doubletree Amsterdam – would really recommend it as it is right by the Centraal Station and has great rooms. The second night we stayed at the Hilton Amsterdam, which is a bit further out. We had a day of heavy snow on the Saturday and then heavy rain on the Sunday before heading home.

Anyway back to the flight home – train out from Centraal Station to an empty check-in area. Immigration was busy with the priority queue full of non-priority passengers. Luckily they have electronic gates, which we were through quickly. Long walk to the lounge which was empty when we arrived there. Nice space overlooking the apron and a view of lots of long-haul KLM flights turning around. Usual BA offerings, although the “champagne” in Amsterdam is actually bottles of sparkling wine in small metal bottles. Actually it was surprisingly good!

Boarding was called and then it was a long walk to the gate, through security with the usual people who have no understanding of the liquid issues! Boarding was well underway when we got there – this time Club was five rows and was pretty much full (EuroTraveller was full). We had a really short taxi from stand to runway and then we were off. Bottles of water again were offered pre-take off, along with hot towels. After take-off there was no menu this time and the “meal” consisted of smoked fillet on a mixed salad with a warmed bread roll. I guess that this meal is similar to that offered on the LGW / LHR flights, but was very different to the BA Cityflyer offering when departing from LCY. Was fairly tasty and went well with the champagne!

Flight again was quick – this time 49 minutes and straight into land at LCY. Arrived early, with a short walk to the immigration area and baggage reclaim. For some reason it came up that last bag had arrived even before we got there. This was followed by the bags from flights after ours arriving first. Not sure what was going on, but normally LCY is very efficient but this evening something had obviously gone wrong with handling our bags. Someone who was cynical might say that they put up on the board that our bags had arrived so that they systems would register that they were meeting their performance targets!

Overall not a bad flight, just not as good as the flight out particularly in terms of the meal offering on the flight.
