You should be able to check in online. The ground staff will then check your suitability for the exit seat once you are at the airport. When you check in online you won't be able to choose which exit seat you are sat at, as this would be already assigned to you. But you would be able to change it at the airport if availability permits.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Has this changed recently? When some friends flew last year and pre-booked an exit row they couldn't check in online and had to do it at the airport.

I think it is a new thing, it has been in place for a few months now. I'm not 100% sure when it changed but I know you can now check in online. Ill double check tomorrow on it, just to be sure.

Not that it helps VS customers, but when I am on United I can pre-book and exit row, and OLCI, when I am sat there I get the speech from the FAs asking me to read the card and let them know if there are any reason why I cannot help in case of an emregency.

Isn't that a bit late in the process? What would happen if you said 'no, can't help, but I'm not moving.'?

On AA you've been able to request exit row seats online since about 1998 - in fact on any US airline you can do this (often you need status for preferred seats). It's fairly easy for a web site developer to enable this with a pop-up saying you have to be fit and able to help in an emergency.

It grrrs me that VS won't allow this - not a question of if it is possible, VS has decided it's not important, e.g. for Au's and row 18 in PE.

Oh and PS, just when ARE the fabled changes to the seat request system coming on line ): ): ): ): (my guess, when VS finishes the web site so 2015!)?
