I have managed to book 7 nights in a King Exec room at the Hilton Tokyo for $23 - for the SEVEN nights via expedia.com (not UK)

I was was prompted by fare alert about this and the booking is confirmed and the £13 has been taken from my CC.

Does anyone here foresee any problems with this?

Regards

I've contacted Expedia asking if they are SURE I'm going to be able to check in without problems. There response was that my reservation was confirmed with both themselves and the hotel and that now that it's booked, they will honour it!

I feel a 98k miles spend coming on! Now, what to do in Tokyo for 3 or 4 days JP?

Regards

We didnÕt have very long in Tokyo, but a wander around the Imperial Palacegardens is worth a look.Roppongi Hills is full of restaurants(try the kobe beef)and bars. If itÕs a clear day the Tokyo tower is free as long as Godzilla hasnÕt trashed it again.Ginza where the Sony shop is located is spectacular at night with all the neon,3 chomejunction is just about the heart of it. If I went again I would take the Kanto Shinkansen to Yokohama only about 30 minutes from Tokyostation remember the NRT check-in does not open until 2.5 hours before the flight so not much time to relax in the Clubhouse Oh and look out for the umbrellarapping machines.Have a good trip[y]

There has been a whole load of talk on FT about this, and not wanting you to book flights etc on the back of this, suggest you have a look at thisfirst.

It is extremely doubtful whether Expedia will be honouring any of these reservations so proceed with caution ! I myself (thought) I had bagged a couple of weeks in Osaka but it will be interesting to see what the official response will be. Bring on the lawsuits !!

Shame it wasn't through Travelocity - they've been making a big thing about their Travelocity Guarantee.

"Human error happens; nobody's perfectÑbut in those rare cases that we make a mistake you can count on us to take responsibility for it, and to be thoughtful and fair as we work to resolve it. If, say, we inadvertently advertise a fare that's just "too good to be true," like a free trip to Fiji, we'll work with you and our travel partners to make it up to you and find a solution that puts a smile on your face."

Expedia offer no such guarantee... [n]

I know its not morally/ethically correct to take advantage of this obvious pricing error, but there is a whole boat load of people on FT that are p****d and are speaking to their lawyers etc etc [:0] USA today and Reuters are involved; it will be interesting to see how Expedia deal with this one.....[:?]

I always think the problems with these errors is how everyone jumps on board knowing there has been a mistake, with news spreading like wildfire over the Internet, and then expect it to be honoured.

Maybe the first few who thought it may be real should have it honoured, but everyone who jumps on the bandwagon deserve to have their orders cancelled, but how do you draw that line?

I emailed expedia with this question ...

" Comment:
Are you SURE I am going to be able to check into this hotel WITHOUT PROBLEMS at this LOW price? "

and got this reply...

" Dear Expedia Customer,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your hotel reservation.

Expedia.com uses a real-time reservation database that contains current prices and availability. The database is constantly updated as fares/rates change and seats/rooms are sold.

Prices and availability are subject to change until your reservation is confirmed. However, once an itinerary is purchased, Expedia.com will honor the quoted price on your itinerary page. "

So yes, I think they should honour it, you have checked and they have confirmed it.

It's the people who sign up knowing there's been a mistake as there's been a mass email sent out at the office, for example, I think is wrong.

Well, having read the posts here and on Flyertalk I'm pretty much convinced that this "deal" is dead in the water!

BUT, in my haste I've booked my flights to NRT and there is NO WAY I'm gonna loose 25k miles by cancelling them so... I've used up the last of my IC points to book 4 night in the Grand Inter-Continental Yokohama!

I really wish I'd chosen a date in Nov to go as Expedia & Hilton are saying those bookings will be honoured! Ah well, that'll teach me for being a "vulture"!

Wow.... talk about a can of worms[:0]

The FT thread is now up to 37 pages and nearly 1500 posts. There are some majorly angry people, and the harm being done to Expedia / Hilton could be quite significant.

I wouldn't give up hope completely, John. It is clear that quite a few of the affected people are taking this personally, and see it as a test case for the whole future of online booking site snafus.

From a legal stand point, I cannot see how Expedia can justify honouring bookings made for November, but refusing those made for December.. surely they have set a precedent for themselves?

We will watch with interest, and hope it all turns out well for you in the end.

When I actually booked it Nick I thought "well it's worth wasting £13 to find out".

I then emailed Expedia asking the specific question "would I have any trouble..." etc

When I got the reply telling me that it was confirmed with both Expedia and Hilton I then went ahead and booked my FC miles ticket to NRT.

THEN, prompted by preiffer I read about the carry on at FT.

To be honest, I jumped on a bandwagon that shouldn't even have been running and am not going to get enraged because it's all gone tits up!

Fortunately I have enough IC points left to stay the 5 nights for free (as I am NOT losing 25.75% of my miles for nowt!) and have never flown on a 340.

Funnily, my trip to Narita will be my 25th VS flight!

John,

You can cancel IC rewards up to 24 hours before arrival. So, you COULD wait and see what happens, and only use those points if your Hilton res. isn't honored?

Just a thought - It could work out well.

Paul,

Firstly, thanks for your input into this. I was actually on about my FC miles being lost due to cancelling the flight.

I have since cancelled my Yokohama reservations and moved to the CP Tokyo centre. Not such a good hotel but the location swings it. I'm going to get a Japan Rail Pass and do the Shinkansen to Osaka and perhaps stay there too.

One thing strikes me about this... Expedia have NOT contacted me to say anything is wrong.

Umm...

That FT thread is now up to 130 pages![:0]

Seems there's some weird Expedia $250 voucher being offered in exchange for their screw up. Doesn't seem to be pacifying the FT gang though...
