Hi

Having looked at the seat map for this aircraft and the very useful sticky post from Tinkerbelle re extra leg room seats I can see that 42 DEF aren't extra legroom seats. My question is why? Would they be classed as exit row seats instead?

I am trying to work out whether I want to pay for extra leg room seats on my economy flight to Dubai or whether I just wait for the seatmap to open and go for 42 DEF which look like good seats to me.

Any advice for a claustrophobic, economy phobic snob? :)

I haven't flown Y on the A340 but looking at the seat map it seems there is some sort of bulkhead/wall in front of that row, which is why they won't be selling them as ELS I assume.

Hi,

Re the Extra Legroom Seats on the A346;

We paid for these last summer for our Dubai flight and they were excellent value. Only £30 each on that route and the extra space is noticeable. Did it all at the airport

Just feels nicer having the seat in front that much further away from you. Its not so much the distance - more the extra area (or volume it gives), if you follow.

Helped ensure a decent nights sleep on our way to the hottest place on earth, (in July!).

I have a half typed TR around somewhere - I'll try to get it finished...

Hi Craig

Which seats did you choose?

Did you have to do it at the airport or is it possible to prebook before hand?

I assume this is an A340-600. The seats you mention in 42 are restricted leg room due to a staircase in front of you for crew rest area. You will also have TVs in arm rests so seats slightly narrower. I would not choose to sit there. The recently slightly revamped seatguru.com web site can help you with this kind of stuff.

You can't pre-select extra leg room seats. you can buy them now, but only they get assigned at airport.

If I were you and travelling as a 3 (as I assume from your post) I would just go as far forward as possible in the center, or window isle and isle.

Rachel,

I'm out and about at the mo; I'll search for the boarding Stubbs when I get in - may still have them.

As MrDoob says, you can get the seats in advance but they hold some back for selling at the airport, half and half I think.

I may have a photo at home - I'll try to dig it out later!

OK.

Pictures are a no-go. The faff trying to resize or scale down or whatever is driving me mad.

But I reckon we were in 34 H&K - definitely the starboard side. There were Extra Legroom in front of us so it wasn't 33.

So if there were 3 of you I reckon 33 or 34 G, H & K; pretty much the front of the Econ cabin.

Get to the airport nice and early and you should have your pic.

Again, worth it if traveling Econ - particularly on a night flight, if you are lucky enough to be able to sleep in the air that is!

Hi Craig

Thank you so much, so helpful!

I really can't sleep on a plane and that's what's really stressing me out, I think I will have to try a sleeping pill on this flight as we land at 0800 and I will ruin my first day if I don't get a bit of shut eye.

Thanks all

I'm really sorry if I sound like a complete idiot but I've just checked the seat map on seatguru and there are only two classes on this ac however the VH website was selling all three classes of seat..... Have I got the wrong ac?

The only 2 class that VS would fly would be the A330 but I don't think they would use the 2 class config on this route.

Having said that, same principle applies in terms of paying for the seats over the phone now and getting to the airport early to get a similar seat set-up as described above.

I wouldn't be surprised if VS want to use a twin jet for this route eventually, it's relatively short as I recall.

Our outbound was a A346, the return was a A343.

Also, looking at Seatguru, they don't list VS as having a 3 class A333, but we know they have a few of these now, we were on one over New year, so Seatguru may not be all that reliable...

Rachel

If you are talking about an A346 (and this is not entirely clear) then 42DEFG is the bulkhead row behind the entry to the crew rest. The seats are narrow (as per bulkheads/exit rows) with fixed armrests but legroom is quite good and you don't have anyone reclining into you. Trouble is, you can't pay for them - they will be allocated at check-in and those with particular needs will trump all others. They are thus neither exit row nor extra legroom seats in VS parlance.

Seems to me to be some confusion

When the A330 joined the fleet the first 2 planes only had PE and Y. All the rest that joined later had all three classes right from the get go. The two 2 class planes are being retrofitted (I think as we speak_

It is possible to buy the ELS seats in advance (you have to phone VS you can't do it on-line) but what you can't do is select which particular seats you want. They will be allocated at the airport.
