Short haul service details.....

I see details of the in flight service for the short haul flights has appeared on the VS website....

Flights before 9am

Bacon rolls
Yoghurts and Granola
Tea/Coffee/juice

Flights after 9am

Cookies and crisps
Bar service
Tea/coffee
Irn bru (on ABZ and EDI flights)

I see at Manchester the lounge will be the escape lounge at T3 and we also have the names of the aircraft........"Maggie May" " Tartan Lassie" and "Queen of the cobbles"

Better if they had some Lorne sausage too. The combination is a great hangover cure.

But they should be doing Vimto and a Hollands pie on the MAN flights.

I think that's slightly unfair. On the GLA/MCO flights Irn Bru is very popular. VS have obviously taken this onboard and will be offering on their other Scottish routes. I think it's a good thing. BA used to offer this on their Scottish flights, I think they took it off as far as I remember.

Maybe I should have said, "living 30 miles south of Edinburgh, it's a little condescending to me that they are making this a selling point for their Scottish departures"

But yes, having been on a few GLA - MCO ( all of them 1st class flights ) there has been the occasional panic to see if its been loaded.

I like Irn Bru and I'm not Scottish!

And it's made from girders not horses so you know it's safe to drink!

Not too different from the dark side's catering:

''On our early morning flights you can enjoy a hot breakfast with coffee and tea. Complimentary snacks and drinks are served throughout the rest of the day.

On Domestic flights to and from London Heathrow, we offer a complimentary drinks service mid-morning and mid-afternoon.''

The hot breakfast is usually an interpretation of an ''english breakfast'', with a veggie option available - I think something omelette-looking with greens and tomatoes are offered. It is amazing to me how they manage to serve the hot brekkie to a whole B767-full of pax in the 1hr it takes to get from EDI-LHR! The ''snack'' for the rest of the day is a choice between a tiny bag of Kettle Chips (good quality but probably only containing 7 individual chips) or trailmix with a cold drink, and chocolate chip cookies with a hot drink.

Airside bus tansfer to T3 is pretty good, is it not?

I was wondering that - is there anything to stop an AU booked on a VS domestic flight hopping over to T3 via the airside bus transfer to use the CH and back to T1?

Or would that involve clearing security at T1, then again at T3 and yet again at T1?

That's a pity they are using the serviceair lounge at EDI, not that there is anything wrong with it, but there is a recently refurbed Ex BMI lounge a few steps away that would be a great foundation to build on.

Now all we need are more Scottish departures. If continental or whatever they are called this week can manage 2 a day to NYC in peek times on 757's is there not a market for a limited NYC flight from virgin ?

You'd need to have a departing flight from T3 to be able to enter T3 via the flight connections buses so wouldn't be possible! I'd imagine that even if it was you'd not get past the CH entrance anyway!!

A 757 is a good aircraft for niche routes like this. VS doesn't have the small enough size of aircraft, nor the clout of an alliance to provide connections at either end to fill the aircraft. I would imagine that UA gets a fair bit of connecting traffic from the EWR end.

i so wish virgin had a london/belfast route, at the moment the only 'decent' airlines operating are ba and aer lingus, nothing wrong with either of these carriers but i would so love to see virgin come to town (preferably out of aldergrove, as the city airport is a pain in the arse) what are the chances ?

oh, b.t.w. the other end of the scale to a 'decent' airline as referred to above would be ryanair and cheasyjet, personaly i would rather swim the irish sea
