Straight from the horse's mouth (well Aer John does eat a lot of burgers!)...

The EI planes are being transferred to Virgin next week and are to be gutted to remove the seats that have the EI logo on them and then will be refitted and repainted.

He was going to tell me the names and registration if them but forgot. Two more planes are coming to EI to be wet-leased to VS from an airline which recently went belly-up

Thanks for the additional info - the names have been mentioned in another thread if you're interested.

Also good to know that they're getting a cabin refit. Wondered how they would go about covering the Aer Lingus logo on the seats.

I meant the names of the Aer Lingus planes which are all saints' names.

My Mistake - interesting if VS will be getting the older EI birds or the newer ones. I went on both last year and theres quite a bit of difference.

Presumably age won't be too much of an issue if they're being gutted & refitted for VS

I heard that two are factory fresh from Airbus and another two are coming to Aer Lingus from Meridiana. Not sure if correct though, just rumours!

Anyway, anyone have a short-haul wish list?

I guess AVOD is out of the question, but here's mine:
-some form of entertainment (overhead screens with sky news?)
-mood lighting
-wifi, as flights are overland it's very feasible
-leather seats (not unlike EI current ones)
-at least 31" pitch
-crew to be generous with drinks and snacks (like VS crew) ! (less important)

Any ideas?

It would be nice to see a product similar to that of VX.

I don't think that two are factory fresh but you are correct about the two coming from Meridiana. Aer John (who works for EI told me this on Friday but he couldn't remember Meridiana's name other than it began with an M. We had too much to talk about than try to figure out which airline it was. :D

Not in seating etc. but the newer ones have the dimming LED lighting and fresher cabin fitting in general compared to the older examples that still have tungsten on/off lighting thats yellower.

I was on EI-DEJ (2005) and EI-DVJ (2009) last year and the newer example felt much fresher, despite the seating being identical.

I wouldn't be too worried about AVOD on a 1-1.5 hour flight! Unless it was gate to gate you would barely find time for a 30min TV show.
