Great Daily Mail reporting, I find the idea of cabin crew shouting over the intercom 'the door is going to go the door is going to go" unlikely along with the concept of her hiding under her chair!!

since when has 1 1/2 inches counted as 'gaping'

and if he cuts short his holidays because of a chest infection what was such a delicate soul doing out of his house (let alone the country) in the first place?

And as for this in the side panel

oxygen levels inside an aeroplane have to be carefully controlled because the air in the atmosphere gets ‘thinner’ – it contains less and less oxygen – the higher you climb.

the air at altitude does not contain less oxygen. there may be less air but the N and O2 are still in the same proportions as at sea level!

Then again it is the Daily Mail.

As a side thing, is it not impossible for a door to just fall open mid flight given the effect of external pressure and a rather hefty locking mechanism?

I couldn't agree more Joey, this is absolute rubbish. As the final sentence of the article says, doors open inwards, the cabin is pressurized, and no way would there have been a 'gaping hole'. Total crap.

I am more interested in how you can hide under a seat, and did the occupant mind.

If this happened as told by this 'pilot' he wouldn't be here to tell the story. Explosive decompression would have reduced visibility in the cabin due to a sudden depressurisation, and anything not strapped down would have disappeared (or at least tried to) through the 1.5" gap

Furthermore, I'd have thought that it would have been more widely reported had this actually happened as told!
