Good morning all,

I am flying to New Zealand in September on the VS200 LHR-SYD then SYD-AKL on VA052.

I have a four hour layover in SYD and don't have to change terminals, I am ticketed all the way through LHR-SYD-AKL with VS.

I have looked around and I don't think I need a full Australian Visa but I am stuck over whether I need to apply for Transit without Visa permission.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dominic

I'm not sure either but an Australian ETA is free (via the official ETA website) so you could always get just one anyway.

The E Visitor for Tourist purposes is free as Mitchja says and is very easy to apply for on line. You shouldn't need a visa to just transit but if there are IRROPS (for example your NZ flight was delayed) you wouldn't be able to leave the airport.

I think this answers your question. If you might get stuck for more than 8 hours a visa is necessary.

Thanks for your help.

I will apply for the ETA before I go.

If I can't leave the Airport I guess I'll just have to stay in the lounge y)
