The flight to Naples from LGW is rather early – 07:30! This meant an early start, even stopping at the Gatwick Hilton. Check-in was rather empty and the staff friendly. “Fast Track” security was so slow – there must have been 15-20 people in front of us and only one of the two lanes open – not good at all! Straight to the lounge with a lovely window seat overlooking the airfield.

Left when it came up as go to gate to find a large queue of people waiting. There were only two agents at the gate, one of whom was making announcements and the other had a problem with a passengers boarding pass. It was good to hear the announcements about babies/infants, then Club Europe / Gold and Silver Executive Club passengers could board whilst the majority of the latter who were still in the queue! Although this was an air bridge gate, the bridge was connected to a different plane, so we had a short walk across the apron to the plane.

Left on time and headed off Southwards to Naples. Hot towels were done before we left and then breakfast service. The Purser served all 2.5 rows (three on the right and two on the left) with a bottle of unopened champagne on the tray with breakfast! Done really well and said you can take those with you if you didn’t want to drink them now! Interestingly we didn’t have the fruit plate with the hot breakfast as everyone else did – we had a much nicer muesli pot! Throughout the flight, the purser was in and around the cabin with drinks and checking that everything was ok.

We arrived to Naples airport which has great views of the city as you come into land. Didn’t realise it is a bit like city airport where they have a single runway and the planes have to turn-around and taxi down it to get back to the terminal. No airbridges here either. Slight queue at immigration and then bags off fairly quickly before we headed off to collect our hire car.

Impression
- Gatwick Airport – could do better!
- Inflight crew – great and made it a very good flight.
