If it becomes customary on flights, then people (including employers) will expect you to be contactable, especially if you are travelling on company time. I don't myself see that as progress.

It does seem likely to be quite expensive but Emirates have it on some A380s and it's not too much.

In regards to renting tablets, it would make far more sense to do this onboard rather than as a holiday gimmick unless they come preloaded with latest release movies and games, but with insurance for when half of them get smashed!

Personally I think VS should be looking at hooking up with a third party to provide this service and to do it before the trip is taken. The survey mentions 'their entire trip' which could be weeks. I can't see it as wise to put the burden of inventory management onto the shoulders of the cabin crew when the devices aren't necessarily handed in at the end of the flight.

Please ban VOIP etc - having once sat on an airport coach where someone was shouting into a laptop (not a headset - literally shouting at the keyboard) "can you hear me? I'm on the way to the airport"

And yeah, the price went all the way down to 15quid when pressing no at the survey about the Ipad. It was indeed rented out for the whole trip. I really doubt there's much interest in it tho...

Agreed too.... hmmm now how to suffer a multitude of wifi glitches whilst on board... for VS tech though it is perfectly believable ii)

Back o/t, what can you do with the wifi? Presumably it's going to be limited to email and a bit of browsing rather than streaming Lovefilm?

PS and you can also "chat" to your VF/FB chum pjh as I did from just west of India a few weeks ago!!!!!

Skype is disabled by GoGo etc in the US.

Skype disabled over US due to law, same as VS turning off mobile connection so many miles out.

AA have announced that there will be WiFi on their new 777-300's. Free during most of march then $5 for 2 hours in April. No pricing after that.

Once they have announced their full prices I would expect VS to be similar.

I think WIFI onboard is a great idea, looking forward to it. I'm sure there will be varying options available for those who just want 30 minutes etc.
